Hello

Have words with the GP will have a look. I have not had a joint replaced, although I have OA in the knees there is no real reason why not confirm with GP and Specialist

All the best

Yes - I had both knees replaced in 1995 and they are still great. It is alot more painful than having hips replaced (I had both done in 1991 then one done again in 2008) - but once you're up and about and exercising etc its great. I've had RA a long, long time (since I was 2 - I'm now 57) in every joint and severe - but when I think back to the pain I was in with my knees before the op its the stuff of nightmares. Go for it!

I've had one knee replacement done due to arthritis & am now waiting for the other one to be done. I still experience some pain in the knee which is probably due to the inflammatory aspect as they only replace the bones so you are still left with the capsule, however the mobility & pain is so much less than before surgery.

I am not keen to have the other one done but needs must as it is very painful & swollen.

I am just 60 I had my first keen done 5 yrs a go; I was always very active & for me this has been the hardest part to come to terms with.

Good luck - they won't do it unless it was really necessary.

I had a knee replaced in 1991, and it was finally revised last April. So I think 22 years is pretty good for a replacement !

The revision was a bit more work to get mobile after as I have more mobility problems than in 1991. But it was all ok.

My other knee was replaced a few years ago when I had to have a total femur replacement. That was actually less work required by me afterwards than just the knee.

Don't worry about it, its all in a days work for them, and knee replacements do not have the amount of problems that hips do. So go, have it done, and make sure you do al the physio

, it does help with getting back to normal

I have had my right knee done and am soon to have the left knee replaced. My right knee is wonderful, I cannot tell the difference between the 2 knees (except the right knee is no longer painful), ie the right knee does not feel `false'.

The operation knocks you about a bit for a couple of days but I was moving fine within 3 days.

I was very worried before the op as I felt I may come out of it worse than when I went in (heard some bad stories) but I am so pleased I had it done. If you are in severe pain I would advise you to think about having it done and speak to your consultant.

I had my first knee replacement done in 1991, that lasted until last year ! The surgeon was not sure whether I needed one, but had me scheduled to have an arthroscopy but wanted the option of replacing it when he opened it up. So he replaced it. After the initial post op phase, I had my life back which was good as my son was a toddler at the time (18 months).

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and was diagnosed when I was 24, now 57. I have never refused surgery offered to reduce pain as I looked at it as it will make my life so much better to be out of pain. I have a total knee replacement and a total femur (which is a completely different story)

You just have to make sure they keep your anti-inflammatories going, as after surgery they have a tendency to forget them. They seem to think they are a painkiller !!!
