Hi everyone,
I just wanted to write a blog post to introduce myself. I’m Daniela, the new Media and Communications Officer at NRAS! I’m in my third week now and I am really enjoying myself. I met a few of you at our annual members’ day in Solihull but I can’t wait to meet more of you in the foreseeable future!
I’ve joined NRAS at an exciting time, because today marks the launch of ‘Simple Tasks’. This is a campaign that the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) has launched to raise awareness and to help people understand the negative impact of diagnosing and treating rheumatic conditions, outside what is recognised as the ‘window of opportunity’ – I’m sure many of you know this is the first 12 weeks after onset of symptoms!
The later a diagnosis is received, the greater the chances of permanent joint damage and prolonged pain, something we don’t want anyone to suffer. The campaign encompasses all rheumatic conditions, including Rheumatoid Arthritis and other conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis, gout and lupus.
I think the campaign name is strong – ‘simple tasks’ – because painful rheumatic conditions such as RA can make the simplest tasks (such as brushing your teeth or using your garden tap) – near impossible!
Here at NRAS, we think this campaign is really important in raising awareness of what is often an invisible condition, yet one which can have a major impact on all aspects of life! I personally take carrying out every day ‘simple tasks’ for granted, so this campaign has really made me think about those affected with rheumatic conditions.
We would love for you to help get involved via social media if you can! Please sign up to the Simple Tasks thunderclap and spread the word!
