I have had it but nowhere near as badly. Just locking for a few minutes. Not a massive problem Massaging the joint seems to release it. I mentioned it to my rheumatologist today and he said it was almost definitely ra related. That sounds awful for you. It is very uncomfortable x x x hope it gets sorted soon for you x

Yes. I can get quite bad enthesitis in the jaw joint. I'm surprised your dentist wasn't more helpful. Mine was great, and showed me how to unlock my jaw. It was quite a different movement to what I would have expected. Glad you are getting the xray though.

Iv had it a few times but no longer than a few days, its extremely painful & uncomfortable but if you massage it does get better.

if your masseter muscle is in spasm you could try heating the area with a warm pack for 5-10minutes.. not too hot as its your face! There is an exercise to relax the muscle, difficult to describe to you but if you look up Rocabado exercise on the net, he is a physiotherapist, who has a video and probably the exercise the dentists teach. I used it to treat TMJ problems as a physio, and it certainly wont harm. If you can see a good physio who does TMJ stuff that may help too.

I'm having problems with my jaw, nor locking though, I have constant pain with it due to rheumatoid disease. I was with my dentist today and he said he couldn't do any work on me as I am unable to open my mouth wide enough. Would a heat treatment and the exercises help me too?

Yes This happened to me for about a week lived on soup!!! No problems showed up on x-ray but very painful just had pain meds then jaw got better few days later my right arm couldn't move it for a few days, nothing since but do still keep getting the odd twinge in jaw advised not to chew gum or bits down hard whilst eating and not yawn with wide mouth, so yes I sympathise with you but all will return hopefully:)
