Is there anyone that can help me with this. A friend of mine teaches English classes to Spanish people and she is finding that her voice is getting sore. is there any advice that you can give me so that i can pass it on to her. Thanks Alan.

Hello, I used to teach - give lectures so might have some hints. Its a good idea for her to have something to drink so her throat doesnt get dry. Maybe throat sweets (non-sugar) to suck? After the class, she could gargle - so that throat stays moist. And there's a technique to speaking for long periods of time. For instance, try not to strain the voice, you can control a class (usually) by speaking quietly which can get their attention.

Hope that helps

When I lost my voice as a teacher the speech therapist advised always warming up the voice before starting(sort of sirening from low to high and back down a few times), also making sure to sip plenty of water through the day to keep the vocal chords moist. She also said avoid sucking sweets because the sugar is sticky and coats the vocal chords.

Yes, Manuka honey is excellent. Used it vor many years. I suffer from a hoarse voice mostly due to the fact my Mother is deaf and has been for some years and has refused a hearing aid and says there is only me who thinks she is deaf!!! ARGH. There is also a propolis and glycerin spray to coat the throat I have and when I reach it from the cubby tomorrow I will tell you what it is. ;-)

Just seen the box now in the cupboard. It is by Bee Health and is called Propolis Throat Spray. Got it from Amazon. There were quite a few different ones I recall.
