I had a steroid put in my knee 5 months ago. The swelling went right down, and was able to do more. But I was wondering how long the steroid lasts for.

Hi Shazney, the effects of steroid injection vary from person to person, the steroid used and the injection site. It's usually given for respite until the other drugs are established in your system and start to work, the benefit you feel now could be the other medications working well.
I have a general Kenalog injection every 3 mth for widespread pain and inflammation, it usually lasts about 6 weeks, by the 10th week there's no benefit at all and I have my next injection at week 12.
Hope this helps answer your question.

Thank you, that has given me a rough idea.
Hi Beth, glad to see you back. How are things with you and family after your upset? Hope you are feeling better in yourself. Love LavendarLadyx
Hi LL, I am feeling much better mentally, however the shock of it all is still playing havoc with my physical health. We took your advice and sent a letter of complaint and claim for compensation to the chief constable, fingers crossed he comes through with the cost of replacements.
I'm stuck in the house, under doctors orders to rest, no stress and definitely no physical activity other than gentle stretches, hopefully that will keep my BP/heart rate down until I get my app for the M.P scan.
Thank you so much for your help and caring.
Cheers

Hello, When I had my knees injected a year ago, they were the worst effected at that time and the pain hasn't come back in them (just a little creeky) but then my RA was under control 7 months or so later...
lets hope it does the same for you
Hi
I've had injections in my knees every 6 mths or so for the last few years but to be honest the last time the effects lasted less than a month so i don't think i'll be having them again

Hi I have steroid injections as and when needed. Could be 3 or 6 months apart. I do find they last quite a long time, sometimes longer than others and usually kick in within 48 hours with the inflammation coming down rapidly after that. I can usually go 2/3 months without having a further injection and once managed 7 months. LavendarLady x
Thanks everyone for answering.
