Constant feeling I want something but don't know what...arrrrrr

Anybody else confuse nicotine withdrawals with wanting something all the time and not knowing what you want?

That's a great description Hidden , absolutely spot on. I think that's why so many people eat like crazy, because it feels like you need....something!

Hey Hidden - this is a very common feeling, its like have a void in your life at the moment.....as you are just under your massive milestone of 1 month smoke free, you are still in the mourning stage of your life long crutch and have to adjust to not having a smoke for every day routine tasks, they say it takes 21 days to break a habit - keeping busy and loads and loads of water was my savior...

As you progress in your journey, you will come across different situations, curve balls that you will have to overcome, but once overcome you won't have it again and the stronger you become to deal with them at ease and comfortably as time passes by....(for example, some things to beware off are, first holiday, first cut of the lawn, first bbq, first birthday, first funeral, first Christmas, first major stressor, etc....)

i am over 2 years stopped and still come across an odd situation that I hadn't done smoke free but I'm strong enough to shrug it off now and get on with it. Read up as much as you can here and elsewhere....

PS I didn't comment on your reply in your other post about the alcohol issue but huge admiration for you tackling both, smoking and drinking go hand in hand so this will be an amazing double achievement for you as many here have fallen when alcohol is involved.... You are doing great :)

Roisin01, you are absolutely correct. It seem you have a lot experience under your belt. And thank you so much for the replies, it helps very much. However small correction, I have not smoked for 26 days starting 12/31/2017, guess that's why I am a bit inpatient. I can say I have cautiously been waiting for the "not knowing what I want feeling" which I know is the nicotine withdrawal, to go away. However it seems to be getting worse, I feel my patience is running out. I just want it to go away already,(I can see how childish this sounds as I am writing it..lol) but it does not. I feel my brain is saying I am tired of this, and I am losing my absolute determination. It's a feeling of wanting a break to gather my energy to care on the fight, but there is none! Sounds like I am ranting, I will stop.

Btw congratulations on your 2 years, I don't know how you have patience to deal with new comers like me. I am almost jealous of your 2 years, nicest way possible. I think if I were 2 years in, I would run away from this as far as possible, just so not to be reminded. Maybe I am going through withdrawals and don't have the patience you've built. Anyway keep up the good work

Also thanks for the admiration, however l knew I could never quit smoking if I kept drinking and this comes from many failed experiences. Truthfully part of the success of tackling both is because I don't want a drink without my cigarettes.

thanks

Hey Hidden - rant away, thats what we are here for and the best use of the community! Your next badge will be at your big milestone of 1 month.

I promise, these feelings you are currently experiencing will go away, forgot to mention, perhaps a trip to your local health food shop for herbal and vitamin supplements with these feelings.....

Ha! You rant when you want. I deserve to listen to it for all my rants. It may help to read people stories. When you click on their names you will see all their posts. Made me feel better! If you feel you've ranted too much with one try another. I believe we all needed that break you speak of. It does come but each is different. You are doing a fantastic job! You are very clear headed about it too. You be proud of you. We are!!! Very well done. Every day away will be closer to it being easier.

Thanks man..good to hear from someone who is much further

Yes that-s-it , it’s very common to feel that empty sensation and that’s mostly at the beginning of this journey

I know now that drinking plenty of water helps to distract your stomach and gives you the sensation of satisfaction specially when we want to fullfil with food .. but it’s all good that emptiness will diminish as time goes .maintaining super busy with new hobbies or new activities is very helpful ..in 3 more days I will be 7 months smoke free and I realized I have more time now to organize my stuff and so dan spend more time reading ! Keep it up 👍👍👍

Karina123, I also need a smart girl... :) lead and I will follow...congrats on your 7 months!!!

Example: Yesterday was sh*t day for me, today I feel fine. But you are 3 weeks ahead of me, so you probably know better than I do! I think you never know what the day will be like, at least for a while. Maybe the more mature members can give better averages.

Thats a big YES! It gets so much better the further you are from it. I still have it a bit, but nothing like the days I could've cried for want of... a silly little cancer stick! Floored me it was the nicodemon. I thought i was losing it!

I think we need to find something to fill that want. Unfortunately i used food. Should have heeded Roisin's advice and put more ice in my water instead of eating fudgsickles! She really has something with ice water taking a craving. Try it it works for those missing somethings too.
