Hi Andy,

Sorry to hear you are having a bad time. I hated those days too, but luckily they are few and far between! Stay strong and try distract yourself as much as you can until it passes.

Sarah

Welcome Andy :)

Poor you. It's pants isn't it? I can't make it any easier but I can promise you that it won't be like this forever. In my experience there's a sort of excitement about quitting that gets you through the first few days and it is only then that the real hard work begins. On the plus side, the nicotine is all out of your system now and the remaining battle is all psychological rather than physical. Rome wasn't built in a day and of course it will take time for your brain to re-wire itself but really, truly, if you can just hold on and keep going, you will come out the other side (and sooner than you probably feel like you will at the moment ;)).

In the meantime, read, post, absorb (because there's nothing that someone on the forum hasn't experienced at least once) and we'll be here to do all we can to help you on your journey to freedom.

Hi, a very warm welcome to this unique and wonderful site. Great to have you on board.

Wow doing a amazing thing, and although I did not quit ct, many many people on here have, so lots of good advice around .

It's just so horrid those early days, but you are doing it and pushing on, nearly a week , what a achievement , be proud this is fantastic.

So please read and post .

Look forward to your up dates.

You can and are quitting fab!.

Thanks a lot for the words of encouragement all.

I felt awesome for the 1st 4 days (first ever quit) and i guess now there is a realisation that this is a long battle.

Needing to find other things to do with all this extra time i seem to have now, so off for a run:)

Well done to all of you for quitting, what an achievement!

Hi Andy and welcome, as others have said this is a great forum for support so keep reading and posting here.

Well done on 5 days, I know it's very hard after the initial euphoria of quitting wears off, there will be other goalposts which make you feel that though. One week, 2 weeks, one month etc....it will get easier and you will feel happier when you start to feel some benefits too. :)

Hi Andy

Massive welcome and you have seriously made the best decision EVER and therefore it won't go uncontested because you're on to a winner.

Dare, I say it, but you are completely NORMAL to be feeling pants. Unfortunately it goes with the territory but the trick is not to let the mental lies seduce you into thinking that a fag is the answer to this or any other uncomfortable state you may encounter as part of the journey of emerging from a quarter of a century habit! And that's why we're here and that you'd be wise to take advantage of the tons of experience and wisdom that the lovely peeps here have to offer. Don't let pride think you have to (or can?) do it alone - as I did!

I celebrated one month yesterday, cold poultry, and I swear I couldn't even conceive of getting past 24 hours and it has been torturous BUT it's my choice to stay quit or not and without these guys, i could not do it

Keep posting, reading and distracting! :)

It really is a great help reading everyone's motivating stories and realizing my current "pants" feeling is not unique. A fag is not the answer! I can and will do this!

Hi Andy,

I am new quitter too and about to finish my second week being smoke free. I feel better and stronger with each passing day. Time seemed distorted early on, but that seems to be settling down now and lately I realise that hours pass where I don't think of them at all. I was surprised that it started to happen so soon.

Wishing you all the best with your quit. Keep posting please.

x

I am feeling better thanks....though the days are long :( trying to get on top of the cravings....deep breaths, lots of water. Taking my 4 kids fishing tonight, that'll be the ultimate test of my patience!!! :)

I bought some nicotine patches but haven't used them - figured the sooner I can kick the nicotine the better.

Hope you're all having a great day, and keep strong fellow quitters!
