A liar's redemption- Day 29

hello

I have been a frequent visitor to the forum though became member today only. this is the first time i tried to quit smoking and i am on day 29 now :)

smoked for almost 6 years, kicked my high-paying but really ****ty job last year and have been between jobs, studying for exams from that time.. my habit of smoking after studying never allowed me to think about quitting smoking :(

Nobody in my family knows that i used to smoke and drink.. and my GF believes that i quit smoking/drinking in July 2013 as promised by me.. (she was getting curious to smoking because of me)

I gave up drinking (used to be social drinker), but smoking continued as a closet smoker at my home on terrace, in the parks, streets etc. away from the eyes of my family..

my conscience kept bugging me that i am a slave to nicotine(even 2-3 cigs a day proves that), i have not been true to my loved ones and there always were feelings of getting caught red-handed by someone known to my family :(

So, I promised myself to quit the day i am done with job search..

On April 28, 2014, smoked my last cigarette after my last job interview..

my experiences have been a mixed ones, some very strong cravings episodes, doing-good feeling, anger, happiness, heavy sleeping for 2 weeks followed by insomnia for 3-4 days managed by heavy eating, hours of repeated viewing of sitcoms, world-war documentaries.. list goes on.. and support forums like this one.. :D

sometimes feels as if m missing a friend in my life or the sneaking-out adventure for smoking but its just nicotine devil talking in my head

feeling more energetic, healthy and stress-free now..

just wanted to share my achievement of smoke-free one month with someone who understand it, as my family and GF have no idea about it..

i am at inner peace now (though gained 3 kgs) as i wont ever need to lie again or hide anything from anyone.. :)

Real test will come next month when m goin to join a job (yes.. i got a good job now)

Would like to thank all members for their posts/discussions which have encouraged, supported and guided so many wandering souls like me to stay on path of no smoking, without their knowledge even in other countries (India in my case)..

Hope to make it my first and last attempt :)

Suggestion/guidance to stay on this path is appreciated as i am really worried about next month of job away from family and peer-pressure/temptations associated with it for smoking

Tell you what, Sunny, there are several other quitters on the forum who were closet smokers (with family/partners unaware they smoked) so you're not alone there.

Lovely to meet you and many congratulations on your quit- you should be extremely proud of yourself. :)

Welcome Sunny,

Sounds like you're doing well. I think half of all smokers have been secret smokers at some point. Let us know how you're getting on.:D

Sunny,

You have achieved something truly amazing and, as I'm sure you feel from within, you really are over the worst of breaking the physical addiction.

The important thing now is to keep the faith. If this is your first quit (and lets hope it's your last!) then you face the hidden danger, perhaps weeks or months down the line, of thinking that maybe just one smoke won't hurt.

Never forget why you were so desperate to break free from the addiction, never forget you are still an addict, and never think just one won't hurt - as plenty on here will attest, just one will hurt - EVERY failed quit went wrong with that very thought:(:(

I am absolutely battling with this thought right now I don't get how it still comes into play every time when we know for a fact one does hurt and ruins a quit x

Are you supporting a particular team in the IPL?

I would love to go and see a live game, it looks like so much fun, one of the things I'll have to do before I die!!!

Watching IPL for the first time.. Mohali looks interesting ..

Even I have not been to a live game despite staying so close to one of the venues. will definitely catch a game or two next year, if stayed smoke free, as a reward :D:

Great idea, the little rewards are what it's all about!

Not what you're looking for?
