I can't focus on studying...

I am 11 months free from smoking (20 years old and has been smoking for 4 years). However, since then, I can't seem to focus on studying. Before I had a cigarette in order to get concentrated for exams and stuff. Since I stopped smoking, I perform very bad at studying and remembering studying material. I have no problem remembering books or movies or such stuff. However, studying is another thing...Can someone please help me? Thank you very much.

Hey!

I'm studying at the moment and I find that to follow the rule of 30 mins study and then a 10 min break sequence has helped. Apparently our brains can't absorb as much if we don't let ourselves have little breaks. In the 10 mins I go for a quick walk, or make a nice cup of tea and read whatever is at hand and take my mind completely away from what I am studying. I think exercise really helps as well, helps your mind to concentrate on the study and away from the cigarettes.

Perhaps you could try and draw a timetable up at the beginning of each week. That's what I like to do but then I can be a square at times. I have definitely changed the way I study since quitting because I had to so that I didn't dwell on the thought of cigarettes and I find myself with the best results I've ever had. So I suppose trying to change your pattern of study and try and be proactive. Hope that helps either with the advice or by boring you back into your books!

Congrats on the 11 months! Fabulous and especially at 20! xx
