Hi all, I'm Sara and I had my last ciggie 3 1/2 weeks ago after reading the Easyway to Stop Smoking, by Allen carr. I tried to stop several times before, but got in such a state each time that I went back to it.
The last attempt was 6 years ago, and I was starting to question my mental health after giving up for 6 months, I was so miserable and angry, ALL THE TIME!
This time everything has changed. I can hardly believe it, and friends of mine are finding it hard to get their heads around as well, but in a good way!
I am so happy I have stopped. My whole mental outlook changed while reading the book ( I couldn't afford to go on the course). I was so sceptical, right to the end, but It really has changed me. I feel certain that I will never smoke again.
The only problem I have had is other people trying to tempt me to smoke again. Why would they even do that?
Anyway, good luck to everyone who is taking on this challenge! You are doing an awesome job, and I wish you all the best.
Sara x

H Sara, great post and lovely to meet you, Alan Carr is quite revered on this site his book has helped countless people to quit for good, I have ordered a copy for myself although I won't be smoking when I read it, I hope it can have the same effect, good on you for completing nearly a month there is plenty of support and also games etc in the general section to keep you occupied if you want it, good luck x x
Welcome to the forum. Yeah he had it sussed didn't he that Allen Carr. Glad it's going so well.
I have no idea what muppet is trying to tempt you to smoke (surely not a good friend) but a puzzled look and
'Why on earth would I want to do that?' in a voice that is dripping with contempt seems to do the trick. If you can curl your lip in disgust at the same time as well they usually get the message.
To be honest I've never experienced it. All smoking friends have re acted in the same way, disbelief followed by ' well done' followed by you 'lucky female dog' or a similar expletive.
People can be cruel sometimes, can't they? In my experience the least supportive people at the beginning of my quit were the smokers. I myself never really believed that someone could ever truly stop smoking, though I certainly wouldn't have tried to tempt an ex-smoker, not matter how jealous I might have been of their success.:confused:
The important thing is that you're in a great place right now and you really sound like you have the best attitude to make this 'the one'. I also read Allen Carr and it definitely changed my outlook on smoking. Every now and then I'll flick back through it and remind myself of what my life could be like in the future if I hadn't already given up.
Good luck and I hope you find this forum useful! xxx
