Hi Keith

Best thing you can do!

I used patches at the start of my quit and found them to be a godsend as they took the edge of the craves. Keep busy is my other tip. Identify when you get your craves and distract yourself, it could be drink water, wash up or look at this forum ... really big help.

Good luck for Tuesday :)

Hi Keith

Lovely to meet you :)

I found the patches a god-send. They really do take the edge off things. However, the first week is generally pretty yuk both mentally and physically so expect to feel worse before you feel better. But it's worth it, it really is.

I also found drinking gallons of cold water helped as did/does chewing sugar-free gum. Be nice to yourself too- indulge yourself (within reason :D) and cosset yourself a bit. Get as much rest as you can (though be prepared for your sleep pattern to go a bit off whack for a time) and most of all, come on the forum as often as you need to. We're all in this together and you'll get loads of advice, help, moral support and companionship.

And a good laugh too :)

Good luck for Tuesday.

Hello and good luck with your quit! I am on my 11th day today so still early days, but I have found this forum and whyquit.com really helpful in distracting myself.

Reading about addiction and the effects of smoking have also really helped to cement the idea in my head that smoking is no longer an option for me (and I wish it never had been but I can't change that now!)

Go for it Keith, great decision. I used patches and Lozenges. The best tip for myself was to just remember not to have another puff of a cigarette. 6 months later I'm still saying it, and it has worked for me, so the very best of luck in your quit.

Hi all is it normal to be anxious 2 days before giving up.

Hi how long where you on the patches for.

Hi Keith I stayed on patches for 4-5 months. I used step 1 for 8 weeks, sometimes though I may have kept the patch on 30 hrs or so. This overlap then meant that I probably had 9 weeks use with 8 weeks worth of patches. The same happened with step 2 and step 3. I the forgot to replace step 3 for a few days so just never bothered putting any more on. It worked for me. I stayed on them longer because at first I was not that confident about going it alone.

Staying on the patch longer, in my opinion, was better than me smoking. Hope this helps.

Good luck in your quit :)

Hi all just to let you know I'm not very technically minded, so I may be likely to put some post in the wrong place place. Or to the wrong person:p

Hi all is it normal to be anxious 2 days before giving up.

Absolutely, it's the excitement, anticipation and fear of not having a cig that's making you feel like that, have a lovely long bath maybe read a book or do whatever helps you really relax on Monday night and then on Tuesday you will wake up refreshed and ready to stick the patch on and go for it, post on here loads if you want to, especially in the early days, there will always be someone on here day or night to support you if you need it or to just have a chat to, wishing you the best of luck for Tuesday, you can sooooo do this :) x
