nicotine free fags

HI, am 3 weeks smoke free after a 40 a day 26 year habit. I think Im coping well and after the hell of the first 3 days cold turkey it seems to be relativley easy . I am missing it and after a relapse of smoking a tissue in a rizzla i have decided i would take great enjoyment from a nicotine free electric cig ! My question to everyone is ,do you think this would this would be a negative thing to do for possibly confusing my brains receptors and breaking the hand to mouth habit?

Like Kat says you're going to get a lot of different answers on this!!

It *is* healthier than smoking fags or even tissues, lol - but you can become reliant on it. OK it's not smoking and it's not going to kill you but even so.

If you use a 0% nicotine one and don't use it all the time then there's no harm IMO but it does bring back the hand to mouth action.

Howard, I completely understand and I have ordered a nicotine free ecig.

I am nearly 7 weeks smoke free and while I am not going back my anxiety is still

bad so I thought it might help to have a security blanket.

I'm with Kat though. An emergency aid not regular.

:)

I was a VERY heavy smoker & gave up using a E cig only...so I'm the opposite to Gemma & Kat...it's all I used to quit. After the 1st week, I hardly touched it....5 months down the line...I don't even know where it is, lol! I know a lot of people have reservations about them (not breaking the hand to mouth habit etc) but I think they're brilliant & also my husband has managed to quit using them...he's 3 months into his now &, again, hardly uses his at all. My 2 daughters' fiancees also gave up using them...they've both been clear for nearly as long as myself. None of us had a problem with giving up the Ecig after the quit...in fact, this has been the easiest quit for all 4 of us.

Personally I dont see the harm in having it handy in those 'danger' moments as a safe alterntive.

I have a packet of herbal fags from holland and barrat and i went drinking last night. To my suprise i wasnt even craving going out for a fag! but as all my friends smoke i went out with them rather than stand inside on my own. I just had them to smoke to ignore the fact i wasnt smoking if that makes sense? worked a treat, I had two and woke up this morning with no cravings. lovely.

so as a few people have said, for emergancy moments its good to have it handy, but dont sit and chuff on it all the time xx

Personally speaking, if you've done 3 weeks and find it "relatively easy" why would you complicate what appears to be a good quit with an e-cig? If you had it from day one then maybe, but why bother now? You seem to be doing fine without it......

great website and comments are so intresting, think i will go back to the fags if i start allowing myself to stroll of my heavily disciplined path . I wasnt trivialising quitting when i said it was relatively easy after the first 3 days , i thought it was relatively easy coz i havent had a day without a burn since i was fourteen and im now 40 and after 3 weeks on wagon i still got job, wife and kids and they dont think im any bigger tosser than before! thankyou peeps! my names howard and im a fagaholic in recovery and its hard work but this helps a bit talking to other junkies ! hang in there brothers and sisters x

Hey Howard if you meant what I put, I didn't think you were trivialising it :) sorry if I gave that impression, I just don't see the sense in tinkering with things if they're going well, why add an extra complication?

You're doing great, but keep posting, this forum is an absolute gift.....

Howard, you are doing amazingly well!

I know nothing about e-cigs, but I would be worried that having all that hand and mouth action would be a physical reminder of fags and smoking...:(

But then again, lots of people have found them to be brilliant for emergencies.......

Whatever you decide to do....keep up the good work! It feels so good to be free from fags.:)
