Another reason to NEVER smoke again......as if we need more!

So, waiting at the airport today in Jakarta for my flight and was totally repulsed by the yellow, smelly smoking rooms they still have. Did I really go and sit in there?!! So, so disgusting and I felt very sorry watching the people going in and out........isn't it amazing when you take a step back and look how different things are. Was truly gross-got my 'lets have a sneaky smoke as I was on my own' out of my head v quickly!

I went into one in Dubai airport a couple of years ago. Lit up and had to put it out straight away. Much as I wanted to smoke I couldn't stand it.

Sounds like going into my mother in laws house :p she smokes between 40 and sixty a day, isn't massively houseproud and the décor is really dated, she has the old fashioned polystyrene tiles on the ceiling which are a really attractive browny, orangy, yellow colour and matching brown cobwebs across the ceiling and walls. We do offer to hoover but she always says no, bearing in mind she also has a little Yorkie, who also stinks bless him, you can imagine I don't like to visit too often

Ohhh I been in one of those - argh awful!!!!

I honestly cannot imagine now, sitting next to anyone who has freshly had a cigarette - the smell is putrid. I cannot believe I couldn't smell it on myself before (I always thought perfume covered it up a lot lol)

Vickie - you're right.. everything is from such a different view now and I am happy to be on the 'other' side.

Once, in the course of my work, I had to visit a lady in her home. Both she and her son were chain smokers and the air was thick with smoke. I was only there for about 15 minutes, but I absolutely stank when I came out. I had to go home, have a quick bath and hairwash and put on fresh clothes. Even my undies stank of smoke:o. Ugghhh, vile. Of course, the car still stank.:(

But, it is strange how some of these stories just make us shudder, some of them we can almost laugh about; things like how much we spent on perfumes, aftershaves, gums and mints to try and cover up the pong. So, although I am repeating myself from another thread, here is a reason for never ever smoking again:

4 weeks ago, I was having a fag, a chat and a laugh with a lovely lady that I know. 2 weeks later, she was diagnosed with mouth cancer. 2 days later, she had had half of her lower jaw removed, all of her teeth removed, part of her cheek removed and replaced with tissue from her wrist, she was being fed through a tube and had to a have a tracheotomy to help her breathe. She is awaiting tests to see if the cancer has spread.

That was all in the space of 48 hours. One day everything seemed fine, but within 48 hours, she had a quarter of her face removed.

If that's not a reason for quitting, I don't know what is.

Bless her and I hope and pray that she will come through this.

Oh my goshhhhh :( that is just awful!! That just absolutely freaks me out! the poor lady I hope everything is ok and I guess count our lucky stars we are on the mend already and hopefully reduced our chances significantly! I cannot imagine what that would be like. Definitely a good reason to have stopped!

My mum is exactly same ! The old yellow poly tiles as well !!

She had a cardigan corgi dog called meggie. Beautiful Dog who died at 17. I ended up looking after her for her last 2 and half years, she became my best friend and I miss her so much after she died last Christmas Eve :(

But I wanted to add just how much she stank of smoke (and that's when I used to smoke too)

AND SHE HAD A MORNING SMOKERS COUGH ! True !

after a few months she improved immensely and after regular walks her little life improved so much ! She was a marvellous animal through and through.

It's wicked how ignorantly cruel we are as smokers, poor Charlie is always coughing, in between scratching himself stupid. It wouldn't occur to her that she's slowly poisoning the poor little thing, he doesn't get any walks at all, she never walked him while she still could and consequently he doesn't know how to walk, he's just stops and sniffs everything, you end up dragging him around the block and it's not enjoyable for him. On the plus side, at 14 he still jumps around like a puppy and seems happy enough in himself. I am so sorry about Meggie, it's so hard to lose someone you love so much, and at such a poignant time of the year too, I'm glad you were able to give her such a wonderful home and give her so much love.
