Hoping ill be ok

So I've decided to quit smoking as the last week I've had some twinges in my back and been out of breathe a lot ,I'm hoping I've decided to quit in time and hoping ill be ok,I posted my first post this morning and was overwhelmed by the support and kindness of others,I'm getting panic attacks worrying over my lungs and breathing and also to be honest how I'm going to cope without smoking ,I'm going to do this and explaining to people they just don't seem to get how hard this is for me,I'm crazy about my smoking , but I'm a mum and I need to be around for my daughters ,I have a disabled daughter so its stressful and hard and I suppose until I started getting breathless I didn't really think about things.any body else got breathless hardly doing anything? Might be my anxiety but I'm thinking I am breathless sometimes sitting still and when I walk to school ten minutes away.i hope I'm not to late and this is just a warning and reason to quit . Scared at the minute .

  • Bit jumpy now I'm just worried breathless is going to be something bad like lung cancer, been only few days like this but I'm really worried

  • I agree, see a doctor if you are concerned, but I can share my experience.

I was breathless after any physical effort, especially at work, and I could hear my chest wheeze and crackle when I lay in bed. I coughed a lot too. It stopped soon after I quit and hasn't reappeared since. I was worried too but my symptoms left when I stopped smoking.

Hope this allays some fears if these symptoms sound similar, but get checked out by your doctor if you're worried!

  • Hi. When I first quit. I kept getting palps. Docs kept saying it was nothing. Just anxiety. In the end after many times at the docs. I had an ECG found out I got a mild heart condition. So get it checked. Always suffers with um but fort they go away after giving up smoking. But didn't

  • Mamfa, you probably don't have anything to worry about - it's the worry that's causing it!! Panicking does make you breathless, smoker or no.

Try the rescue remedy and see if that calms you down, but obviously if you're worried go and see your GP :)

Being breathless when you walk and so on probably is down to smoking but you should be young enough to undo most of the damage if you stop now!!

Don't know how many you smoked, but certainly for me at 20-odd a day it did make me breathless when I walked fast uphill, and forget running!! Good news is that my lungs improved noticeably really fast so yours should too :)

How will you cope without smoking? Probably a lot easier than you think when you get over the shock of not smoking :) Nicotine is a stimulant, which isn't exactly helpful when you're stressed already!!

All smoking does is stop you craving, get past the craves and you won't "need" a fag any more.

    Hiya,

Hope your still doing well in your quit? Just wanted to say I too get panic attacks they are absolutely horrible so I do feel for you, however just wanted to say perhaps get your iron levels checked, apparently low iron can make you breathless without much exertion, I have just found out from GP my levels are very low and am now on an iron supplement, take care xx
