I have copied a post by CatWoman 2009... I actually screen dumped this for easy access to read when I wanted and thought "just one" ...it helped me massively .....

By CatWoman 2009.....

My tip.........if you feel like a cigarette read the following :-

Ok, you want a cigarette, you are craving for one and its all you can think about. Well, you can have one ...

Imagine unwrapping the packet and feeling the sting in your nose as you get the first whiff of a freshly opened pack of cigarettes. Slide one of the little beauties out and put it in your mouth. Try and get over feeling vaguely stupid with a long white stick hanging from your lips and rasp your thumb down the rough wheel of your lighter. Hold the flame to the tip of the cigarette and take a deep breath in as you light it. Ignore the smoke clinging to the skin on your face and making your eyes water. Feel the path of the noxious burning chemicals as they slide down your clean throat and imagine what is being absorbed by the delicate lining of your throat. Feel the smoke hit your lungs, each chemical in it travelling their merry little way wherever it can sneak, feel the black beads of tar attach themselves to the thin walls of your lungs, clinging there for dear death. Repeat the suck on that ridiculous looking white stick at least 15-20 times. Try not to smell the dirty stink thats attached itself to your skin, hair and clothes like the cloud that travelled round with 'Pigpen' in the Snoopy cartoons.

Repeat the above between 20 and 40 times daily until you build up a nice yellow furry coating on your tongue, really attractive brown stains on your teeth and the insides of your fingers turn an appealing yellowy orange colour. Don't forget to turn your head slightly to the side when speaking to people because they don't really want to smell the noxious fumes on your breath and make sure you choke everyone you pass with the amount of perfume/after shave you have to wear, not only to cover the smell of stinking smoke, but also because your sense of smell has dulled to the point you don't realise you are overpowering everyone you meet. Oooo, and don't forget, when you eat, smother everything in extra salt and pepper just to make sure some flavour can work its way through the slimy yellow coating on your tongue to reach your dulled tastebuds.

Now who still wants "Just One"? .....

That's a fab post - think someone bumped the original a while back and being honest that's part of the reason I didn't cave last week.

Another thing is one of my friends, don't see her much any more 'cos she's moved up your way now Woo, but she stopped smoking at the beginning of the year and has caved :(

She is totally gutted, the things that were c*ap before still are and she's annoyed with herself for starting again. She started with just the odd one or two on a night out and now she's smoking as much as she used to.

Got a very strong talking to from her when I said I'd been thinking of starting again!!

Thanks Carol....as Max says genuine people who has walked the talk !

Gemma it's really sad when you know someone and what they have been through to quit only to start again. I read somewhere it takes on average someone 4 attempts! I hate "averages" because we Are All Different and our quit is personal to us ! I really am proud to say that

I till this day am

still 100% a member of NOPE. ...reading this quote and members on here have seen to that. Thank you :)

It is a huge shame when someone fails, and my friend was full of it at first, even though she found it hard. Hope she'll try again!!

Lol, 4 attempts? That depends!!

Janeissane on here is on her first and she was doing brilliantly - hope she still is. I've had more attempts than you can shake a stick at - without this place I'd probably be not only smoking again, but smoking more than I used to. It's a lifesaver if you think about it.

NOPE is the only way to go hun, keep at that and you'll be fine :)

i have afew friends and family members that have tried on lots of occasions to quit some have managed to do it for a while but its down to your mindset if you keep thinking that your either depriving yourself of something or think your missing out the chances are you will give into that smoking demon at some point give it being upset down or had afew drinks and in some cases having a good time and that demon is saying one wont hurt

but then again i know of two people that only smoke when they are out and drinking for the rest of the time it dont bother them

for one of my bestest friends she is always beating herself up about smoking but i keep telling her as long as you never give up giving up then you will succeed at some point

but the fact its so easy to still smoke and there are so many that do smoke i notice the smokers even more so now i can smell them before i get near them even if they arnt smoking at the time

one thing i have noticed though is the amount of people on here that have quit and stayed quit

this place is a real gem full of determined understanding inspiring people and that makes a big difference

im not sure if i would still be smoke free if it wasnt for this place i honestly dont know

what i do know though is this

if i had still been smoking i wouldnt be here now :(

as when i was rushed into hospital 2 years ago in april for an emergancy op i was told that they had to restart my heart when i was in the theatre and given the fact i always had probs with my chest when i smoked i had alot of chest infections and had to use inhalers to unclench my chest and help me to breathe makes me wonder wtf was i thinking when i did smoke thats for sure

so that is another reason i will never smoke again because i dont want to take that risk and i dont want to leave my family heartbroken especially my mum my girls and my wonderful grandsons so that was really my wake up call so to speak

Carol....enough said to scare you to stop eh...but there are still people that don't get scared enough ! The fact that this quit was forced upon you makes it even harder doesn't it but you made the choice...THE RIGHT CHOICE..your family will thank you for that...GOOD HEALTH and certainly GOOD WEALTH and

GOOD RIDDENCE NICODEMON

i know that Woo it is very sad :(

but the quit wasnt forced on me i had been quit for nearly 6 months when i was rushed into hospital the fact that i had quit already helped save me

it just helped me to realise that if i started again i wouldnt get another chance or would end up having even worse health issues then i do already

Not what you're looking for?
