Diarrhea

Sorry if this is TMI, but since the first day of my initial quit (so a week ago) I have had terrible diarrhea. I get extreme cramps and then (and apologies for this) it is like I am peeing out my poop hole (in the charming words of my 6 year old son).

This is the opposite of what I expected! It is driving me insane as I feel I cannot go anywhere for risk of an accident. Is this normal?! How long will this go on?! I have not really changed anything else, so am pretty sure this is quit related, just not sure if it is a detoxing affect or something showing up that smoking disguised.

Help...

I know it is not funny but your description of it is quite funny. For me it was the other way... for the first few days then because I had massively upped my vegetable and fruit intake it was a bit unsettled for the next few weeks...

I also know if I eat lots of minty gum or sweets it can have that affect on me - you sure you maybe not sucking on something minty or chewing gum or something that would increase your saliva... Or maybe more fruit and veg like me ?

Apart from that - obviously if it gets worse or does not go away in a few days get to the doc matey.. it could just be a bug you've caught...

This was me too!

And I still have the same problem and I'm 25 weeks into my quit. I have just been diagnosed with chronic gall bladder diseases with gall stones! I was exactly the same and thought it was quit related too. See how you feel in a couple of weeks. I now take Imodium every day to control mine so I can go out! Makes life very difficult and I haven't been anywhere this summer holidays, on a positive they are removing the pesky think next week!!

Hi you will feel much better with your gallbladder out, I just had mine removed 2nd August, my reason I stopped smoking two weeks before operation. Even though I had pain from op when I woke up I instantly felt better. I didn't have stones just mine didnt work.:)

Angela, thank you so much for your reply. I so so hope I feel much better after my op as have been feeling rubbish for ages now.

I have to be honest I'm a little ( ok maybe BIG) scared now as its tomorrow. I'm scared about being put to sleep incase I don't wake up! And also scared that I won't feel any better and it will have be a waste of time! Xx

Hi kat, just to say all done and I'm safe and well. Took a lot longer than they thought as gallbladder was buried and hiding in my liver so took 4 hours! Bit sore and stiff today but came home last night, have 3 lovely people looking after me and loads of family and fab friends that I'm really lucky to have xx

Hi

Pleased its all gone well, you will honestly feel better. I feel great and it's four weeks tomorrow since mine was removed. Mind my weight has suffered these last two weeks but not being able to eat for two years I have had both healthy and not so healthy food. Diet again tomorrow as I feel stronger to do it. Take lots of rest and only advice I ate small and often first week, you will feel great soon :)
