Your identity as a smoker...

Hi All,

This is just some food for thought about the possible difficulty of letting go of your identity as a smoker after you quit.

I've noticed that even though I was constantly smoking before I quit, and people probably knew that I smoked pretty heavily, NONE of those people noticed that I've stopped smoking. (Unless, of course, I had told them.) It's almost as if they forgot that I used to smoke.

I just think it's interesting how something that we consider to be a substantial part of our identity often isn't even on other people's radar.

Surely this isn't the same in all cases (smokers definitely notice more), but I think it's great how easy it is to let this attribute go if we understand that by simply not smoking we are automatically "non smokers".
