I've just started my second month of being smoke free and just thought for fun I would ask what has everyone been doing with the money that they've saved from not smoking?
Although I haven't been specifically putting any money aside I bought a whole load of car parts last week and serviced my girlfriend's car myself. When you consider that I didn't pay a mechanic and that I have saved at least £150 on cigarettes over the past month technically I managed to service the car for free! And that's just after a month.

I am saving for a 60 inch Television full HD, 3D, etc at the moment it's for sale in John Lewis for £1,100 with a 5 year guarantee! I will have enough by January I am hoping it will maybe be about £800 in the sales. Today is day 20 of my quit and up to this point I have saved £126 so roll on January.
My wife is due to give birth to our first child next week (one of the reasons for me giving up really) so i'm putting my savings into a seperate fund so we can go hopefully go on holiday at some point down the line (and maybe if I save enough, give myself a treat too :D).
Congratulations Doofus! My girlfriend is also due in the near future, we're about 2.5 weeks from our due date. I haven't saved a ton from not smoking so far but I took my girlfriend for pedicures and a nice dinner last weekend that not smoking for a month paid for.
As only on Day 4 I haven't saved very much yet, but bought myself a little fat owl yesterday in B&Q. It has replaced the manky ashtray which used to sit outside on the smoking table.
I bought three of those - I need a can opener - money boxes from Poundshop. Every day I put a £1 in each can and record it in my diary - just to make sure I don't miss them out by accident sounds a bit an*l but it helps with my quit). So there is over eight month's worth of daily pound coins accumulating - one box for me at Xmas, the other two are for the grand-kid's holidays 2014. Magic how it builds up.
panic! cos it will be your tin she goes for, you may have to bite the bullet early doors and call it 'our' tin it may save at least half of it for Dickos beer fund?
I like this post. Tangible material proof that giving up is amazing for all aspects of your life, not just your health (though that is a major reason for me, and others im sure)
The money I am saving is allowing me to travel for longer. I will be a year away from home in september and I have been in australia since march. If I was smoking here I would be thinking of coming home about now but I am just about to book flights to new zealand and japan!
If I had given up years ago it wouldnt of taken me so long to save for this trip in the first place!
Gemma-lou12 - pink things?!?!? hahaha that did make me laugh. Is it literally anything pink?
I am just starting my second month as a non-smoker and I have saved £183.58 so far I am putting it all into a separate savings account and my target is to have enough by the time of the boxing day sale to buy a 60 inch television with all the trimmings lol.
hello all well i havent managed to save much so far but going to buy a house with the money saved (damn those fags are quite expensive arent they)
cheers

One year, eight months, three days, 1 hour, 5 minutes and 6 seconds. 36722 cigarettes not smoked, saving $20,931.94. Life saved: 18 weeks, 1 day, 12 hours, 10 minutes.
I put more into my special account for my 60inch Television I have saved by not smoking £227.49 and avoided trying to poison myself 711 times I couldn't resist putting some more cash into my account so the total in my TV account is £400 I am really enjoying life as a non-smoker.
Ok so it is still August but I bought my coat for the winter yesterday...alright, I might have a wardrobe FULL of coats and jackets but this will be special...it will never be smoked in:D:D:cool::D and was bought because I still had money in the middle of the month as I don't smoke
I may just have bought a couple of pairs of shoes too...
I was going to put the extra money to visiting my mum in France but I thought there needed to be something I can hold up and say, you are the symbol of this achievement. Thinking I might buy a pair of designer shoes haha

Ooh definitely!! My quit buddy did that, she loves them to death and she's so proud of having a pair of Jimmy Choos, not a pile of ash and fag ends - she calls them her freebie
I've been spending mine on quantity, not quality lol.
I haven't even quit yet, my quit date is this coming Friday, but I'm already thinking of what to do with the extra £45 per week. Things are very tight financially and that is my main reason for quitting.
Probably I shall use £20 to ease up the general weekly spend and put the rest aside into a savings account for spending as required, replacing worn out clothes, new washing machine or maybe a little treat sometimes. Just general things like that, but to know that I will have the money to do them will be great.
It's having to scrimp and scrape every last penny at the moment that is my spur to quit.
I hope that everybody gets a massive amount of pleasure from whatever they spend their extra money on!

Good luck on your quit, you will find plenty of encouragement in the forum besides the monetary savings, the most important saving is your future health.
