Been smoking for about 20 years and failed to quit probably at least 20 times too, this time has to be the time I don't fail (easy to say). 48 hours since I last lit up and I've been climbing the walls for 47 of those lol. This has to get easier eventually, right?

Hi there

Well done on the 1st 48 hours.

You'll find that attitude and understanding play a huge role in quitting.

If you can see quitting as a positive thing regaining health wealth and control then you'll have a much more straightforward quit than if you see it as sacrificing and denying yourself some great pleasure!

Smoking is something like 5% chemical addiction and 95% habit/conditioned response. You'll find that the chemical withdrawal is all but done after 3 weeks but it takes much longer to learn to cope with everyday situations with out your "old abusive friend".

Understanding how it works and what to expect while quitting has made process much more achievable for many people on here (me included) its worth having a read of the links in my signature to 2 of which are free online quit smoking programmes.

All the best

Nic

Welcome Eleanor,

Many people are new to this site and are all at various stages of their quit.

No matter what stage you are at there is always guidance. If you use this site daily as I do, it can only do you good.

Quit the monster before it quits you and moves onto his next victim. :(

What helped me as others say is Information and facts are power and I personally think the more I know the more I don't want to smoke.

I am by no means saying its easy. A day at a time and no two days are the same !

The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that there is indeed a worldwide smoking death related epidemic where every 6 seconds there will be someone worldwide that will die of a smoking related decease.

THAT'S SCAREY !
