It has gone fairly well so far, I have not yet felt the need to buy just that one last packet of 10. Yesterday however (after meeting a friend who does smoke for dinner) I started thinking if she can smoke then maybe I can too etc. etc but I overcame it
When I came home I noticed that my patch had fallen off, I have no idea when it dropped off and where it went however I do know that I can't get off them just yet anyway. I have to say, it has filled me with a slight dread knowing that I will have to go down to step 1 and then drop them altogether.
How did everyone else do after the patches cam to an end?? Would you recommend a low nicotine gum?

Hey Gizmo, welcome! I personally managed without NRT as such, this forum was mine. I ate piles of sweets though so that may count
It shows it can be done though; I saw an old friend last night who I have not seen since I quit, and he couldn't believe I was still not smoking, such was my intake when he knew me.....
I gave up once for almost five years, using the patch. More recently, I gave up (almost three years now), going cold turkey. My first time around I started forgetting to put the patch on somewhere around the 8th week, and decided to stop patches altogether after week 10 (it was recommended to do 12 weeks). I realized that I didn't really need them, which is why my 2nd time around I went without.
The fact is that it NRT is not necessary, but it can initially help to get over the psychological barrier of quitting. If at all possible, however, I would highly recommend doing without NRT, because in reality it is just prolonging the addiction.
Alex.
to the contrary i think its 100% psychological .... you gotta be nuts to keep smoking fags these days lol
but seriously i think its like this the first 3 days your body is excreting all traces of nicotine so everything beyond the first 3 days is definately psychological
cheers
