Hello everyone!,

First of i'd like to say that ive been reading this forum for a few weeks without actually signing up and now here i am. Ive never signed up to any forum before actually so this is all new.

Anyways, Bit of a back drop:

Im currently 21, been smoking since i was 16 around 20 a day, however over the last year or so ive been doing 30-40 a day. Never tried to quit before until recently, A few nights back i decided to cut it all in the head and stopped at midnight on the 19th, so its been 3 days now.

Ive been completely cold turkey so far and again, never tried to quit before.

However its not as bad as i thought it would be, the hardest bit has been last night while i was trying to sleep, was a pretty rough and sweaty night to say the least. Having cravings ofcourse and getting ready to go into day 4.

Just thought i'd get involved with you guys, so any advice or tips or motivation (Even though, so far so good) fire them my way!

Thanks everyone

Welcome James and well done for having a bit of sense to quit now when you are still young enough to undo the damage. I'm sure many of us on here rue the day we started and I for one started at 20

One day at a time and it will be worth it

Keep going and things like sleeping do sort themselves out

Welcome to the forum, and big congrats on two great decisions - quitting smoking, and joining this forum:D:D

I'd just like to agree with [and emphasise] what's been said already - read, read, and then read some more; both on this forum and other excellent online sites, you'll find a vast resource of useful posts and articles which help you understand your addiction. Knowledge is power in beating this, so arm yourself with the right ammunition to ensure success.

One final thought - you're a first time quitter; if you read through posts from many of the regular posters you'll find the vast majority of us have failed long term quits under our belts. Why? Because we had the addiction totally under control, months or even years down the line, and thought 'just one won't hurt'. Don't fall for thoughts like these - just one will certainly hurt. You can stop smoking, but you'll always be an addict. Just one, and you're back to square one. Understand this, and you cannot fail!

Thanks for this egg, as I know I'm in the minority (this is my first quit) and I am 5 months quit, it still helps to be reminded of the not one puff ever. So with your words ringing in my ears, hopefully I will never fail. :)
