Panicking

My daughter was due to start a weeks holiday in Spain with us today, unfortunately her flight was cancelled due to the French air traffic controllers strike, she is now coming on Friday. The thing is is that she is a heavy smoker and I have been getting myself in a state of panic in case having cigs and a smoker in the house will make me want to smoke. I have in fact made myself quite depressed with the worry, and now feel I need a cig to stop this anxiety. Now I have another days grace before she arrives, does anyone have any ideas how I can stop this panic? I know I am being irrational, as I have coped extremely well over the last 3 months being amongst my smoking friends when socialising, sometimes it has bothered me others not, but once I got home where there are no cigs around I have always been fine.

Do try not to worry :)

You might find living with a smoker reminds you how foul it smells!!

Have found that I've been fancying a ciggie sometimes up until I actually smell smoke - and then it's just rancid.

You've come too far to go back now :)

Hello Jeannie

It is completely natural for you to worry but you know that a cigarette is definitely not the answer! In fact it will, as you already know, make you feel infinitely worse! As Gemma has said you will probably find that the smell alone will put you off!!! You have definitely come too, too far to give in now ....

Take care and stop worrying :)x. (Maybe smoking should only be allowed outside?)

Ah devious little sod isn't it, the addiction? Worrying about being around fags makes you think about having a fag? Daft if you think about it but that's what it does to us.

You'll be fine, probably better than you imagine. I was told early on in my quit by several long-term quitters that it was what I did that mattered, the world will still turn and people will still smoke. It helped me to focus on my own efforts..well done so far, three months is immense ;)

Hi! I was just reading and I wanted to say that I think you will make it!

Remember that no one can make you smoke, especially in your house. :). And maybe try deep breathing for the panic

I have a feeling this is a harder / special situation since it is your daughter. I know with my family, in the past, smoking was something we shared and so maybe that is hard, too, knowing you don't now. But if you all love each other, it will be fine! :):):)

Thanks guys I knew I was being totally irrational, somehow I woke up with a very positive attitude today, and am no longer worrying. No way is anything going to ruin my quit. The thought today of actually smoking makes me feel sick. Think I shall be fine.
