Day 5..

Hi all,

I am new to this forum but a friend recommended it.. I am on day 5 and have not smoked but I am on the nicorette patches. Even with them I still miss smoking but just taking it one day at a time. This is the longest I have ever gone without putting a cigarette to my mouth. I did not really have a build up and mental preparation like previous attempts, I just picked a date and put the patch on and taking it a day at a time since..i am hoping i can break all my habits and associations and eventually wean off the patches.. I have previously tried hypnosis and electric cigarette. Is anyone else in a similar position? I am coping ok. had a couple of drinks over the weekend and was fine but not with smokers but have 2 nights out planned this week and feel my weakness will be around smokers..

Hi Curlysue and welcome!! You will find all the support and encouragement you could want here! Please join us in a new group just started today called Penthouse Express it's for new quitters this week. Would love to have you with us.

I am on my third quit, the 1st one being cold turkey and now I am using the patches which really helps me with the cravings. I look at it this way.... when you quit smoking you are fighting two fronts, the pyschological and the physical. To me using the patch lets me concentrate on just one of those (being the psychological) at a time instead of fighting both battles at once. But like everyone here says, use whatever method works for you. I also tried the E-cig and imo think it is not a good idea because it still allows you to continue the "act" of smoking if that makes sense to you. Bad stuff, that!!! I don't recommend that road. Ask some others perhaps.

As for going out with friends, if they smoke and you feel worried about it then I would say don't go. Better to let them know what you are trying to accomplish then to blow your quit. They are your friends, they'll understand ;)

Well I ramble sorry... hope you consider joining our new group. Either way everyone is here for you!!! Take care..... :p

Well done Sue, sometimes the less you plan to stop the better. You are in the right place for support and there are a few people here who have just started their quit, so lots of support.
