34 days Smoke free!

Hello everyone! I'm new here! 34 days since I had my last cigarette and I'm doing great cravings wise. No craving's at all. However, I know that coughing up phelgm and having chest pain/coughing/shortness of breath is normal but heck is it a nuisance!!!! It's awful!! Can anyone give me any advise on when it will stop?! Or basically if it really is normal? Some days it's tolerable, other days I've resorted to using an inhaler to relieve some of the symptoms. I've found that a menthol cough candy will work and hot liquids but seriously, I just want to feel normal again. I get winded just walking down the hallway to the washroom.

Hi there echilde and welcome to this wonderful forum. Congratulations on your 34 days. Awesome.

With regard to chest tightness and phlegm etc, I suspect it varies from person to person. If you are worries, pop off to see your GP.

All the very best

Hello echilde.Well done you for getting to day34 AND without this forum! (I dont think I could of done it) Im on day29 now and my lungs have just started clearing out.At first my breathing got easier but in the last couple of days my chest has felt a bit tight.Your lungs sound like they are really cleaning out.Your breathlessness is probably caused by all the phlegm.Put a garlic clove through a crusher, mix it with orange or lemon juice.a teaspoon full of olive oil and a bit of water and then neck it.This is called a liver flush. It helps detox the liver.Garlic is an antiseptic and is expelled through the lungs (and skin) It is amazing for clearing up chest infections and I was thinking it might do you some good. All the best x

Hi echilde

One thing I've learned about quitting smoking and symptoms: After poisoning ourselves for however long we did it not much is abnormal.

Congrats on 34 days! Hang in there. You can do it.

SS I have been eating the crushed garlic every other day,its all I can face because I know its good for congestion,Thanks for the tip of olive oil and lemon I will try and do it daily now you have mentioned it too.

I gave up smoking because I was getting painful lungs/chest and had an x-ray today. The nurst said she could tell I was a smoker but everything seemed to be ok but have to wait for actual results so fingers crossed:(

This is the wake up call I need, when your healths on the line giving up smoking seems a small price to pay.:D
