Well done for resisting, but why did you sit in a smokey kitchen? Your a non smoker now so why suffer all that smoke? I think in the early days you should try to avoid situations like that. Good that you resisted but the plan is to quit not get a medal for bravery. Read the forum and you will find lots of comments about not putting yourselves in certain situations. The main one is avoiding drinking for a time as this is one of the most dangerous times in our quit. Anyway rant over.

Being on NRT will help with the nicotine withdrawal but it will not help with the act of smoking as a whole. We need to retrain our minds and bodies to be non smokers. Remember we have been doing this for years and it is now the norm. Not smoking is alien to our body and mind and it will take some time to fix that. The good news is it can be done.

I suspect the fluey groggy head is one of the withdrawal symptoms. You body needs time to adjust to not smoking after all it has got used to having thousands of horrible chemicals pumped into the body everydad.

I would also suggest reading Allen Carrs book on stopping smoking. It does make a lot of sense and many people have used it as there quit method.

Keep the battle going, you can beat it

Hi Nikki

Well done on your 5 days quit that's great. Even though you are using NRT I'm afraid you will still experience withdrawal symptoms. All of what you are describing sound perfectly normal. I have found it really helpful to look over old posts on here and you will soon be able to relate to what others are also experiencing. Although I have found NRT really useful in my quit, unfortunately you still have to have the correct mindset and just ride through the withdrawal symptoms in order to stay quit.

I think the more you can educate yourself about what to expect the better chance you give yourself of staying quit. I don't post a lot on here a lot but I do drop in everyday to have a read. There are loads of members who give excellent advice and support.

Keep up the good work!

Emma

thank you for your replies, although i read them abit to late and caved in :( in that moment it just didnt feel worth the way i felt...although i feel no better now i actualy feel very let down as i could have easily kept going...

luckily i have a jaw op comming up in two months (i know lucky ay lol) because i will get the oppurtunity to be happily withdrawing in my bed, in peace, cold turkey and get alot of it done that way. the fact i wont be able to smoke because i will have holes in my mouth, well thats that isnt it. i will have a month where i can be crying and miserable and people actualy are understanding lol! so i think i am going to wait it another few months and use this 'easy oppurtunity' i am going to be given...

still feel really awful about it though...

anyways good luck to the rest of you, your very head strong people xxx

Oh Nikki

I'm sorry you had a ciggie last night. Hopefully You will get back on the quit again once you have the op. Maybe you should have a bit of a read up about it before so you know what to expect. Although you will have some idea from your recent quit.

Good luck with the op and the quit
