Champix, making me ill :(

Hi all, Been taking champix for 15 days now - the first 9 days I smoked & since then I haven't had any, one week tomorrow :)

Problem is they are not just making me feel sick all the time, i'm actully being sick :(

From tomorrow i'm only taking one tablet a day because I really don't think I can go through this sickness for another 10 weeks.

Still not smoked though, but I feel so sick don't think I could even if I wanted too!!

Denise - nearly a week :D

Hi Denise,

I sympathise with the Champix side-effects cos I have had them too and been sick a couple of times. But it seems to get better the longer I am on them. Are you eating plenty before you take them and drinking plenty of water? It does help. But I would suggest talking to your doctor if the symptoms persist. And meanwhile, if you can manage on one tablet instead of two and still not smoke its all to the good as less Champix to come off later :)

All the best,

Zoe xx

Hi Zoe, Yeah I've been eating properly with the tablets, drinking water the lot but not getting any easier - i'm really hoping one a day will still work because I don't want to fail after nearly a week.

Good luck to you, we can do it - otherwise it's all been for nothing :)

Denise I think one a day can work cos I used to miss tablets out quite a lot especially in the mornings when I didn't feel like brekkie. The only reason I failed was due to life problems, not lack of Champix. You could ask your doctor for the 0.5 mg tablets so you are still getting two doses a day but not as strong. Quite a few people on here have been successful that way.

Stay strong, cos a week is too long to throw away ;)

Hi Denise

What a nightmare! Hopefully you will feel better when you go down to 1 tab as its no good if they are making you so ill - i had some of the side effects but not to that extent and they did get better but a girl at my smoking group had to be taken off them as they were making her ill so she was moved onto patches. See what the doc says if you are still the same on the 1 tab!

Thanks Zoe, that's good to know - I'll probably try that. There is no way i'm failing again, i'm getting sick of giving up now so this is the last!!

Hope you do it this time, it's hard with family stuff going on - that's usually what makes me start again but now I realise that me smoking doesn't make everything alright.

Denise :)

Hi Denise.......sorry didn't realise the sickness was so bad for you. I've not really had it this time only very slight on the morning tablet......I found the best way to deal with that was to take the tablet but return to bed until the nausea ceased (I have been fortunate enough to be able to do that as I've been off work).

Don't ignore it, try the one tablet and see how you go but worth having a word with your doc.......it's a powerful little 'pill' and maybe not suiting you. I hope you get on ok and carry on with the quit...........I could have smoked tonight but determined not to ! Day 12 complete x

For the record I could not carry heavy shopping bags without being fit to collapse by the time I got upstairs to my flat....scarily so i must say ! Today I carried 5 heavy bags up and although slightly breathless.....it was easy !

That keeps me focused x

Hi Di, that's great & really gives me hope, I'm usually half dead making the beds so i'm hoping it'll be easier tomorrow!!

Well done on your 12 days :) I will speak to doc next week if it carries on because i'm trying so hard this time I don't want anything to spoil it...

Hi denise,

I'm sure i have read on here that some people who suffered with the Champix sickness ended up cutting the tablet in half and taking half twice a day.

Maybe worth a try before you see the doctor?

On my 3rd week with champix and feel the sickness and light headiness off and on but seems to get less each day and well worth it compared to how much better i feel.

So hope you get it sorted and stick with with it:)
