Hi Shakeira

Really sorry to hear you're feeling lonely (and you are NOT being ridiculous...these are your valid feelings)

I think we fool ourselves when we're smoking (I am a failed quitter...but am going to try again, so this is for me as well as you!!).

We feel lonely so we smoke, we feel happy so we smoke. We feel these things whether we smoke or not.

Perhaps you are lonely and that's not good for you, but maybe it will give you motivation to find things to do that will help you stop feeling like that. Take it from me....smoking will NOT help you feel less lonely and isolated.

It really won't.

I hope you feel better soon. You are doing SO well in your quit...keep hold of that.

best wishes

Hi Shakeira

Sorry to hear you're feeling lonely & isolated. That's how it all started for a lot of us. Many started to smoke when they were young to feel part of a group & to have something in common with the "gang". I think they like to call it "peer pressure" these days.

Looking back I think I made the wrong decision to smoke to be with friends.

( I always was a stupid kid!! )

Hindsight is perfect knowledge & with hindsight I should have joined other groups - preferably a sporting one. There are so many other ways of joining groups to make friends but muggins here went for the one which had some form of rebellion with it!! To think how stupid I was!! Rebelling!!! I conformed to the capitalist's dream - buying something I had to keep on buying.

Believe me Shakeira, the loneliness will pass & other venues to make friends will present themselves. There are worse things in the world than feeling lonely. One of them is losing freedom.

keep going and dont give up! Smoking does absolutely nothing for you, Its all an illusion, you dont need to smoke!... You have done so well, well done and keep it up! Do not give up! if you give up then you are going to torture yourself even more with having to start all over again, you've come this far! you can do it!:)

Well yes, nicotine is a CNS depressant and only has a stimulant effect due to the added nicotine receptors in the brain that grow as we become addicted, so as we smoke more it still has a depressant effect, hence the anti- anxiety 'qualities' it can have when the addiction is fed. I hope that makes sense.

Not what you're looking for?
