Hi Noreen

I don't know that I have any great advice - I haven't even fully stopped yet. But I just want to say that everyone is here to help you and that we have all felt like this. Stay strong - it will get better.

Don't noreen. I know what you're feeling like, I've been feeling down a lot myself lately. What would make me feel even worse would be if I smoked. I'd feel so crappy and awful about it, I'm sure if I did smoke it would make me feel 100 times worse. You've helped so many on this forum, particularly me, it would be such a shame and honestly the thought of a cigarette seems better than the real thing. I've done it countless times myself on other failed quits. Smoking the first ciggie tastes like shit. Go through your reasons on why you want to quit...living longer, being there for your family for longer etc...you know it makes sense. I'm hoping this funk will pass for all of us soon.

Please don't smoke Noreen

You just completed 2 calendar months without lighting up.

You've been through these stressful times before (I've gone back through your posts ;)) and you stayed strong and they went away.

You can do the same again :)

Deep down you know a smoke will be a VERY short term solution and a VERY long term disappointment to you.

You know you will continue to have ups and downs but smoking is not the answer.

Drink lots of water, brush your teeth and feel how fresh it tastes, kick your husband :p...

ANYTHING, BUT PLEASE DON'T SMOKE! :D

noreen - I'm not familiar with your quit but your posting in the 3 month section so my guess is your about 3 months into your quit which is a huge accomplishment. I have found from my quitting experiences that even having one smoke will lead back to full time smoking and leave you feeling even worse once the stressful events have passed.

In 2001 I had quit smoking for 1 year. I had a lot of stress to deal with at that time and smoking seemed logical so right back into it I went. Looking back at it smoking didn’t fix any of the stress – time did. Well here I am in 2012 still trying to quit.

The stressful times will pass and hopefully you will still be smoke free when it does. You will be able to look back and feel even better about yourself because you didn’t smoke.

I hope it gets better for you soon.

Hi Noreen

I am a smoker.

I gave up for 75 days starting last October. On Christmas Eve I had a day like yours and not being as strong and focused as you are...I had a cigarette and another and another. And here I am mid February still smoking and constantly thinking about quitting again. My cough returned immediately and I stink of smoke....nasty! That first cigarette achieved NOTHING.

I admire and envy your quit. Please don't let this bad, bad day trip you up.

Sorry Karri I had to laugh at your comment on G.P.s being qualified doctors LOL! IMO G.P.s know as much as we do.....especially when you're being constantly asked by them "well what do you think we should do"????? Errr I might have the wrong end of the stick but isn't that your job, you know the one you're being paid 100,000+ a year for doing...anyways I agree with your advice though and the G.P. may be worth a visit (probably better than mine).

I am so stressed out and tearful...i really want to smoke..help

Hi Noreen

It sounds as if you are not stressed and tearful through withdrawal at this stage of your quit. Is it a menopausal thing? Not sure if you are already using HRT (I swear by it!) or one of the herbal alternatives? If not, it may be worth considering.

The thing that is certainly not worth considering is smoking in response to how you are feeling. You know that this will only land an additional problem into your lap, which quite frankly, sounds like the last thing you need right now. :o

Have you got anyone who can nurture you for a while? If not, think what you can do for yourself to bring some comfort. I really hope that you feel better soon..
