Hi,

Loads of people on here have used the book as a way of kick starting their quit, and many swear by him.

I think if you can get your head in the right place then you are on the right path - there are many things (articles, blogs, videos, books) that might help to inspire you and it helps to read as much as you can to help you achieve the right mindset. A positive attitude such as Carr teaches certainly can't do any harm.

Best of luck with your quit.

Helen

Well I don't think I'd take tips from Alan Carr, but I found Allen Carrs book very good lol

Seriously though, his book has helped me loads I havnt struggled like I thought I would after reading the book, it made me cheerful about it rather than feeling deprived

Hi, I used it in 1997 and didn't smoke for 13 years (don't ask!) . I foolishly relapsed, but am using alan carr again this time. I had used everything else before, but the book was the only thing that really helped change my attitude enough to give up. Go for it. He's very right about the whole mindset.

Once the mindset it there i think the rest will fall into place.

I quit using his book, but I didn't find it "easy or fun" and there were definitely withdrawal symptoms.

That being said, he speaks the truth about the real reason we smoke and undoes a lot of the brainwashing that makes you think you "enjoy" smoking.

I used Allen Carr after I had quit 2 weeks as I was struggling and it really helped my mind set, and the no nicotine for me was the way. NRT was not an option for me, the pharmacutical companys and the NHS make far to much hype and money out of it and always say you can't do it on your own, which you can as his book says. I know it's not for everybody but whatever it takes as long as your not smoking in the end use any method that suits you.

Bettyboop, I agree. Of course you can do it on your own. They don't exactly offer much help and all the help they do give u is nrt or champix. They don't give you any psychological help which to me has been much more helpful than the nrt. The psychological side to it is what makes you stop smoking. Not the replacements

I am in EXACTLY the same situation as yourself! I quit thirteen years ago and relapsed just under a year ago. I am reading the revised edition 'Easy Way To Stop Smoking' I also have the DVD. I think we both have to accept that something didn't gel all those years ago despite quitting for 13yrs. Best of luck.

I got the book when I heard someone on telly say they quit by reading it .. I was curious with no intention of quitting .. anyway, I read it ... wasn't long before it all started making sense and I understood the real reasons I smoked ... I stopped smoking when I finished.

It wasn't 'easy' but it would have been hard to carry on smoking after reading it.

Day 4 I had mini breakdown and went to buy some baccy .. I smoked 2 then realised I never wanted them again .. so I've stopped .. nothing, no nicotine replacement .. just going along with it ... the ups and downs with the understanding of whats happening to me.

Its getting easier the longer I go, infact now 3 weeks on I'll say it's easy .. the first week was torture though .... I was a heavy smoker for 25 years

I found Alan Carr's book quite good, and even though I had already stopped smoking for a month when I read it, his book gave me some good insights and motivation to succeed.

Another book I read, which I found even better - or at least which complements Carr's book is "Free Yourself From Smoking" by Kristina Ivings. I found that her style was a lot more subtle and deep, filling many of the gaps left by Carr.

Thanks for the reccommendation I'm sure people might give it a go :) I was stopped for a few days before I read allen carrs book and found it did cement my reasons for stopping smoking and helped me to see smoking for what it really is.

As always mixed reviews regarding the book/ books. Everyones quit is individual to them. what works for one doesn't work for others.

I personally have tried everything under the sun to try rid myself of the smoking with no luck on my side at all.

I like many others on this wonderful site heard about the Allen Carr book. I was at a stage in my smoking career where i would have done anything to break the chain. So i gave it a go. From page one i was hooked to it as i was hooked to smoking. The way in which it comes across is subtle, not in your face, telling you what the other quit groups/doctors and other help teams try to drum in to you. It just seems to work in a way that its hard not to want to stop, i found that by three quarters of the way through i was waiting to stop.

It makes you look at why your smoking, makes you look at smoking, but more importantly makes you smoke whilst you read it, Which is what we all want to do really isnt it. We dont want someone telling us to stop, we want to stop of our own free will, we want to be able to say right thats it, Come on from now on im going to be free of the it and the book encourages you in a way ive never ever known.

Some people will be able to take on board the way in which Allen Carr managed to stop smoking, which is Totally cut nicotine from day one rather than prolonging the need for it, Some wont. Its just each persons view on how they want to read it.

I would seriously recomend it, I feel it worked wonders for me, but then again so has this site, so from a personal perspective maybe they go hand in hand.

Whats so very important is that we all do manage to quit, what ever way is very much a good way. There is no right and certainly definetly no wrong way. We just have to stop and thats it. Top and bottom. End of. :)

Brainwashed

I read the book and haven't smoked for 4 months now, I loved it and understood how the book works by re conditioning your mind set ie it tells you how we've been brainwashed for years by the tobacco co's and then brainwashes you the other way, I kept thinking I've already read this page and then realised what it was doing.
