Well guys I quit 82 days 14 hours n 31 mins ago but who's counting........
I used a patch that fell off and left me gasping in shock everytime it did for 2 weeks....then switched to mini lozengers that I carried in my hands, pockets, car, purse, office, best mates bag.....well you get the picture......for a further 5 weeks......then I went cold tepid turkey with a Fisherman's Friend or 3......
Now the good the bad and the ugly is ...this suited me....it's neither right nor wrong but it worked for me....for those newbies out there that are so confused by the raging 'discussions' that come from this forum as to the best way to quit....there is no right or wrong way to do it as long as you do quit......
never mind the fact that I get through 89 packs of Fisherman's friends a week lol I put it down to my 'addictive' personality......
Good luck one and all I'm off to raid the local chemists they've got BOGOF on Fisherman's Friends

Well done to you Michelle - HUGE well done. You're off all the NRT now, which is amazing - and as I sit here with lozenges within reach, I know that I too will have to take the plunge before too long. I've not had a cigarette for 13 weeks now, and can honestly say that I will NOT have one. As long as I have my crutch, at any rate, in the form of those lozenges. But the prospect of NOT having them is .. er... enough to make me reach for one. What on earth am I so bloody frightened of? I don't regret my quit method - I'd never have managed at all if I'd gone CT - but I do know that I am already in the clutches of another addiction.
Trying not to panic. But also trying not to make excuses to avoid what HAS to come.... And, I suspect, the sooner, the better.
Terrified,
Sue
Perfectly rational, adequately educated and reasonably intelligent in all other aspects of life. Horribly muddled, in spite of masses of helpful information on here, about the hold that nicotine still has over me.
82 hours, 14 days, 3 months and 22 seconds with you girl, seems like along time ago remembrance day 12 noon for me midnight for you. Lot of water passed under the bridge since then, fancied a ciggy today... wasn't like a desperate crave more of a wouldn't it be lovely...if only...sigh..then on with life. Sue don't fret about NRT we are all still going through hard times quitting ciggies, just concentrate on not smoking, even if you use NRT for another year it's no big deal do it when you feel ready. Adios my luverlies.

HA HA what a team we've been..... roll on the Penthouse......
Really well done, Michelle - you are sounding so positive and confident! I developed a serious Polo Mint habit for my first few months. They replaced my fags as the thing that I had to take with me in order to start the car in the morning. Gave them up without a struggle after about three months, though.
And Sue, you have done the hardest bit by quitting smoking, so don't despair. I'm no expert on NRT, but maybe you need to apply the same strength and resourcefulness that has got you this far, and develop a new strategy for dealing with this? It may be about switching to a different type of NRT to withdraw from, trying something different like hypnotherapy, or treating the withdrawal like a three day cold and toughing it out. Whatever it takes, but I would imagine that this must be an easier bond to break than the ciggies? Good luck.
Sue...... You are doing great don't under estimate how far you have come.... You might be on em for a few more weeks or months it matters not a jot.... You will know when you're ready
Have a big wine for me
Michelle
Mrs T thanks for your kind words... I have visions of you weaning yourself off polo's n in the end just opting for the hole in the middle ha
Too true. I don't think it matters a damn how you get there. The only reason i didn't do NRT is that in the past i've done it...but badly...put a patch on, taken it off, had a fag, put it back on etc etc! So, it just happens to be ct for me, but i really don't think it matters. It's finding whatever works for you, and just do that...badgers bums or whatever.
Personally I think every hour someone goes without a cigarette is a big achievement. Strange because none of the long term quitters ever say anything negative about method, they just applaud everyone who quits.
Anyway, when my quit date arrives if I want to get through by patting a badgers backside, taking NRT or eating my entire body weight in sweets I will
Lol I think badgers backsides are very underrated :0)
That's the point I was trying to make.... The negativity had become too pervading on here and we are NOT about that.....kudos to ANYONE trying to give up.... Cuz damn it's hard.... But with support however that may come... It makes it slightly easier :0)
I developed a serious Polo Mint habit for my first few months.
My name is Dave and I am addicted to polo mints. My last mint was two weeks ago after months of up to 3 rolls a day. The last two weeks have been a tremendous struggle. I have even been considering softmints or tictacs - I have not given into temptation so far - I will be strong!!!

Have you considered MRT?
You rub peppermint oil on your skin and sniff it each time you want a mint.
After 4 weeks you're still gagging for a mint but you've been polo free for long enough for us to claim you as a success and get some extra funding for our struggling clinic.
Alternately we offer Chomp-twix.
We force feed you chocolate and keep you on the edge of hyperglycaemic meltdown for long enough for you to forget that you ever liked polos. The fact that you also forget how to drive, your wife's name, where you live and some of your minor reflexes is merely a temporary side-effect in the success story of being mint-free..
Oh my - if laughter is the best medicine, then you two, Dave and Austin, should be prescribed for all quitters! Nobody, but nobody, could fail with a dose of CHOMP TWIX!

ha ha ha tiz a special clinic indeed.......I've a feeling that in our discombobulated state we may forget which bloody thing we were addicted too in the first place........become addicted to god knows what....... and end up on all sorts of spurious sites trying to relieve ourselves:rolleyes:
Oh my..how I have laughed and laughed and read the posts out to my husband and laughed some more!!!
This forum is just the best medicine that anyone can get.....Day 60 and after a stressful week so far at work I have had to work extremely hard at the temptation not to grab a colleagues cigarette out of their hand as they are going out for the smoke break, I come home after my de-stress 12 mile bike ride and whilst tea is on I read the posts....you guys are so funny!!!
YOU seriously are the best medicine.......its a damn shame that we could not all get together in real life , it would be a blast!!!
So this is just to say thanks for putting the grin back on my face!!!
I remember reading this the first time and lmao. This group can really get funny
a 12mile bike ride, wow that's awesome. I did like 20 sit ups last night and on sit up 21 I said F*** this. So good on you for getting out there, I have to force myself most the time.
Anyways, it gets funny here, try to find the past "merkin" post.
