I guess this is not day 1, more like day -9. BUT, what I was really surprised at was how the Champix, which I strated with the lowest (white) dose yesterday morning, was having an effect immediately. I did not expect this! It made me feel a little bit wierd, bit of a bad taste in my mouth, but nothing particularly bad. But when I had some ciggies after work they just had no effect!!! It was like they had no nicotine in them! This was a bit surprising and I guess annoying as I wasnt really ready. So, I guess the Champix is doing its job.
So, is it normal for this to hapen so quickly?
Thanks
Gavin

I am on Champix too, but I think everyone is different. I did feel less like smoking after the first tablet, but like you I was not ready yet. So don't push yourself as you will know when you feel ready to quit. I quit somewhere around 12 days after starting Champix, by which time the cigarettes were starting to feel awful, so my last memories of smoking are not good ones, which is a good thing for me. And now I am quit for 6 weeks and four days, so obviously something has helped Champix do help, but they are not a magic pill and you do need motivation. Best advice is to read as much as you can about what happens to your body when you quit, so that you are well prepared as to what to expect when you do. Try whyquit.com as that is an excellent site. And also tales of the quit.
Wishing you all the best with your quit, keep posting on here as there is always someone here too help.
I stopped smoking after 15 days of starting Champix. I pushed it right to the 'deadline', even though fags started tasting horrible. In those first 2 weeks I cut down by loads without really trying.
I'm now on nearly a month of no smoking..amazing! Champix has certainly helped. I've had very few physical cravings, just some psychological ones!
I was very motivated and prepared..and I used/use this forum ALOT! People have been so supportive and encouraging. I think it would be much tougher to get this far without it
You've made a fantastic decision to quit Gavin. You'll be fine!
