Hey Lizzie, you really are going from strength to strength, I am so proud of you:cool: Your post made me laugh, it reminded me of the other day when I walked past the bingo hall and saw a cloud which I think had people in it?? Not sure cos too much smoke.... But nowadays, smokers just look weird to me, standing there with long white things emitting smoke sticking out of there mouths:confused: did I really do that?? It seems so crazy now:rolleyes: I am so glad we don't do it anymore.
It does help. I had a smoker in my house in the kitchen, if my kids were around they would have pounced on them, but really cool knowing that i dont crave, bless.
I spent Sunday lunchtime with a smoker. We sat outside so he could smoke. It was interesting to watch and I had NO desire to do it myself.
I watched him roll a fag, light it, inhale (can really imagine this bit) suck on it, a bit desperate and then after a few minutes put it out.
Thats it!
Thats all!!
Its really helpful to me to put smoking in its place, see it how it really is.
We don't NEED this.
I enjoyed spending time with my friend, I had a few glasses of wine which was lovely and I didn't need to smoke to make it perfect!!
We CAN do it!!
If you can bear it watch a smoker, do it..its good for you!
You're so right. It may seem a high risk strategy but I have found being with smokers, even going outside with them has made me feel even more positive about this. Not becuase I fell sorry for them or superior, I don't, what they do is up to them, but because one sees it for what it is. Plus it makes you think "if I can be in this situation and not smoke, then I can be anywhere and do anything and not smoke".
As mad as it sounds - I kinda look out for them...so when I am leaving a supermarket/work or driving - I see em and they look strange - like machines on autopilot feeding away.
I am living with a smoker at present as I get over my op. My mum is the only one in the family that still smokes and to be honest when I watch her I wonder why.
BUT then I was addicted for 37 years so I cant really judge her as she is now 72.
I never really noticed people smoking before - guess I was far too busy scuttling home to smoke in the privacy of my own home/garden - but they now seem to be EVERYWHERE! In spite of being on the dreaded Day 3, I've surprised myself by feeling quite sorry for some of them - especially the couple shivering in dressing gowns underneath a no smoking sign outside a back entrance to a major hospital .... they looked cold, miserable and were dragging pitifully on their cigarettes. I just thought - you're going to finish these and then wonder when you can sneak out to have another. And then another ..
I really don't want to be enslaved like that any more.
That was me 7 weeks ago. I wandered around the hospital until I found somewhere close to the ward where I could sneak out for a smoke. Everytime I went I felt pathetic and embarassed when people walked by me.
Your post has just reminded me of how I felt. I asked my spe******t when I could go home, he said to me ahhhh yes youre a smoker, they always want to get out quick. I was so ashamed.
Thank God I wont ever have to go through that again xxxx
