Ok i have been on champix for 11 days now and have been smoke free for 4 days. However i am now starting to think whats the point in putting myself through giving up. I know if i start smoking again i will be gutted. I am hoping this is just a phase and it will pass:confused:

Firstly, fantastic that you have the same name as my current favourite new musical act.

Secondly, welcome to the forum and congrats on getting where you are just now.

Champix, whilst taking away the initial smoking need in these early days, doesn't do the whole job and you will also have to apply yourself to stopping smoking. That shouldn't be a problem because you obviously wish to stop and hence why you're following this route.

A great part of making things easier for oneself is gaining an understanding of what your body is going through as you transition from one to the other states. A few of us bang on about reading to gain that knowledge. In my sig are a few links that provide excellent advice gathered from 100s of ordinary folk that have gone through the process. And then there's lots of information contained within this forum.

Other than that, do post up questions or issues positive or negative that you may have.

Hi Ben,

I know exactly what you mean! I have been on Champix for 18 days and smoke-free for six days. Day 4 was ok for me, but Day 5 was absolute hell:( I was so fed up with the strain and stress of not smoking that I just wanted a holiday and a rest from it all! I had a crave which went on for several hours and didn't know what to do with myself. Eventually I ended up getting drunk:o not a good idea but at least I didn't smoke. And then yesterday I suddenly felt so much better and actually started to enjoy not smoking:D And I don't want to smoke today because by tomorrow it will be a week LOL! So stick with it. The first few days are awful and exhausting but you won't be stuck like that forever! I didn't believe it when people said it gets better but it really, really does. I never thought I would say that but its true! So stay strong and don't give in, and keep posting on here to let us know how you are doing.

Take care,

Zoe

Hi Ben,

Welcome to the Forum, I am also on Champix, maybe you have not given the Champix a chance to get into your system properly before stopping. Please keep going it is worth it and it will get easier. We all get those thoughts but they will go and when you have them they get easier to deal with.

In the Tips thread there is one called Junkie Thinking, have a look at that one it is right on the button.

Well Done on getting to day 4 you are doing so well keep it up :)

Know how you feel

If you read through the various posts on this forum you will probably find that most people seem to hit days like the one that you appear to be having.

You will hopefully also notice that for most people the "downer" passes and then a light comes on and the whole world brightens.

I had my day last weekend...got encouragement from replies received and the past days have been brighter.

You - WILL - have a similar experience. Please believe us.

Thank you guys your comments have been most helpful, this forum has really helped. I visited the smoking clinic to get a prescription for more champix and had to do a carbon d test which showed a result of 2. Before I quit it was 38 so this was a real boost.
