Well, Day 9 and still going strong. Am really missing being able to drink now though as haven't had once since I stopped. I'm wondering would a couple of drinks start of really bad craves. I think I deserve one now

Congrats on reaching day 9.

I think you'll be ok having one drink, as long as you don't go overboard and get trashed. Being aware that you might have cravings and telling yourself you won't give in no matter how strong they get will help. Just remember the alcohol will probably give you the false sense that having one cig won't hurt and you can quit again tomorrow. Don't listen to it and you'll be fine.

I'm on day 16 (!) and I've had 3 drinks since I've quit. The first time I had a bit of a craving but that was only because I saw my OH's fags on the table. Second and third time, I didn't really get a craving but I haven't actually been drunk yet and I'm avoiding that until Christmas.

I think it's one of those things that varies from person to person.

I didn't stop drinking since day one, and I'm talking about getting totally trashed on a regular basis (some people may have noticed my erratic posts ).

Still, during all those months (over 10 now), I never felt inclined to have a single cigarette while under the influence. Other people, I suspect, cave in quite easily, especially if they are already feeling somewhat vulnerable.

For me, the greatest character strength in staying stopped is resolve: "I will not cave in under any circumstances."

This is especially true when starting out. Once you have a few months under your belt, you will need less resolve, because the question is no longer asked.

Basically, I would say that if you think there may be a risk, don't take that risk.

Alex.
