Well my quit to date has been aided by Patches (1 week) and gum in ever decreasing amounts ever since.
I have listened (?), read and considered the arguments on here for going Cold Turkey but my thoughts have been that frankly whatever helps me break the habit is good by me. So chewing it has been.
This morning I thought it was about time I stopped using the gum. It's been just over 8 weeks now and frankly I'm bored of chewing. I thought it would be easy. I thought that the amount of nicotine in my body was so little that frankly it wouldn't affect me. I thought I knew better that others who said (or implied) that there would be withdrawal as I still had nicotine in my body. Phish said I (mentally you understand, I don't tend to say Phish out loud too often), it'll be a doddle!
I was WRONG!!! No it is nowhere near as bad as Day 1 was, but I am aware of all the same withdrawal symptoms, just in a slightly milder form. Still bad enough for me to feel as if I really can't cope with today. Everything is too hard/too much bother. So in a minute I'm going to retreat and use my Day 1 strategy of sleeping it off!
No I definitely won't smoke. No question of that. It's now a fight between me and the NRT gum!! Sadly for the gum, it will lose!
So see you all later, and next time I think I know better...!!

Thanks everyone - you are a lovely lot! (we need a 'blowing kisses smilie'!)
Feel much better today although harder than when I gave up- the fags. WTF is that about!!! Using my own advice, I think it's cos it's not as exciting, so time to find some exciting little challenges for myself...!
First one: To get to 10.00 without having a gum!
Here's to a good week for all us, but especially you Lula
Had a bit of a tough weekend too, had my Mum around for lunch etc, yesterday and she and her husband smoke 40 a day. They didnt smoke in the house but it was very hard after lunch.
Also found myself picking fights with my other half all weekend, my classic for a flounce off to buy fags, done it soooo many times on previous quits. Luckily realised what I was doing, had a sulk and went to bed !!!
We need to stay strong and not get too complacent. I am determined to be boarding a plane next Monday for the first time as a non smoker
I need a 'gritted teeth' smilie! I could then write fine! Instead I'm going to have to write gnnnnnnnggnngngngngfine ggggnnn thank you!!
Seriously... much harder than I thought,. It's just gum after all, but blimey it does have an affect! On the plus side I don't want to smoke! But I sooo want to chew!!!
Thanks for asking, it does make me feel even more determined!

Have a good day xx
OMG, that must have been tough. Really well done you for getting through it though. Us Febbers are made of stern stuff!
Was also horrid to my OH, but then that's his fault... he shouldn't have stood like that, all upright. I mean really, standing. How rude and unnecessary. He was smiling too. How very dare he. Just standing in a sort of 'I am standing here smiling' kind of way. AAAAAAAAARGH.
OOOOH one week till your hols!!! Exciting stuff, as a NON SMOKER!!!!
Love the picture: But hmmm, something fishy going on, lollipops with a health warning? Have we been doing a bit of photo-shopping Austin? Whatever, made me laugh, thanks!
Talien I doubt there are enough sweet shops to keep me going. Sank the european sweet mountain yesterday. but am now off on a hunt for lollipops... great idea thanks!!
