Reset or Continue on

Hi All,

I'm open to opinions. As much as I hate to admit it, I caved on Sunday... kept on smoking Monday, then re-quit Monday night. So no smoking Tuesday and none today (Wednesday).

Not sure if I should reset my quit counter back to day 1/2 or just soldier on.

What would you do in my shoes?

Well for me I would carry on. You had/have done 3 months - give or take - so to start all over again at day 1/2 could be a be demotivating. And since you're now firmly back on the quit I think it's more about learning why you collapsed temporarily rather than wearing a hair shirt.

I suppose it depends on you really, but for me I'd find it too depressing to start all over again!

Whatever you decide, very well done for getting right back on with it!:)

Of course you should just carry on!! youve smoked for a couple of days!!A tiny comparison from when you was a full time smoker i bet! .... Well done you for making that decision to keep on going!! never look back its so not worth the headache :)

Its down to you what you feel best about.

If you see it as an insignificant slip and something that won't distract you from the goal then its perfectly fine to pick up from where you left off.

Where as if you feel that its something that is going to weigh heavily on your mind causing you to feel guilty or a fraud then reset it.

To be fair it doesn't really matter to anyone else its how you feel about it.

Personally I made the decision that if I even had one inhale then it was a reset, but that was part of my defence mechanism against opening the door even a crack to nicotine again. Thankfully I never had to but I would have, because for me it was always the "just one" that destroyed my previous quits.

I think you should call that a blip and just keep on going. The fact you are telling us means you want to keep going and stop. So go for it!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, divingdale, resetting would have been very demotivating. I've decided not to reset the quit clock.

The funny thing is that the last 7 days before the slip were the hardest and ramped up in duration and intensity until I caved (the last 2 days were almost nonstop)... The past 2 days after getting back on the quit horse have be insanely easy.

Actually Tuesday and Wednesday have been the easiest days so far since I started this back in January.

All I can say is "WTF, I though this was supposed to get easier the farther you got from your last cig, not harder!!!"
