Getting really bad cravings now, and have been constantly for the last few days? Am so tempted right now its untrue, and im becoming almost jealous of smokers, watching that plume of smoke waft up into the air! I keep saying i dont want to be part of an anti social minority, but its suddenly becoming so hard to resist. I hope that by coming here and sharing will reduce the craving???

hi

its strange isnt it. I am on the same time as you and cravings have been getting to me since friday. I am managing to fight them mainly by throwing junk food down my neck!

Maybe this is the troublesome 3 that everyone goes on about. Third day, third week and 3rd month are the toughest.

Im trying to keep busy and to keep smiling!

Hope things get better for you

Hi toto

Way behind you but stick with it. I know it must be really really hard, but you don't want to go through all the week 1 again do you?

it's not so much the anti-social bit surely, it's the nasty smell, wasted money, damage to your health etc etc etc. None of which really helps but look how far you've got. 3 entire months, that is amazing.

I'm sure it's the dreaded 3's and that any day now it'll ease up and you'll be back to being thrilled that you've kicked it for so long.

Cake, chocolate anything rich and BAD works!

Good luck

Strange that you had cravings like that while using the nasal spray, I never had any craving while on that because it gives you such a strong hit of nicotine?

It's because cravings are nothing to do with nicotine!

Cravings disappear when the smoker lights up, but that is because a craving is simply a mental prompt to repeat the habitual behaviour, triggered by the brain, not by falling nicotine levels, but experienced as a physical compulsive urge that seems to the smoker like a real bodily need. The craving disappears long before the cigarette is smoked.

Consumption of nicotine only alleviates the symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal, usually quite distinct from tobacco withdrawal.... :)

Sorry, but totally disagree with you there. Nicotine cravings are the only cravings I have ever had.

In my view, and I’m sure some will disagree, but I don’t believe there are any other types of cravings. Nicotine is an addictive drug as proved but I think that any other type of cravings is just something invented in our heads, an invented excuse that allows us to relapse back to using nicotine. As in a different way of justifying it so ourselves.

If people really have that problem, why don’t they just go suck a pen for 5 mins? To me it’s just a way of justifying using nicotine again. As I said though, I’m sure people will disagree.

Hi,

I don't know if this will help, l posted it on 03/01/2008 having started my quit on 01/01/2008 -

Morning all, i'm here as well. It's weird today, l keep forgetting that l have given up. I was eating a sandwich, and as l was eating, l suddenly thought, "when i've finished this, i'll have a cigarette," and when l realised that l wouldn't be having one, l felt really down for a moment. The same thing happened when l was making a cup of coffee earlier.

It DOES get better :) It's just that our mind has become ingrained with action/reation - having a coffee/having a cigarette, finishing a meal/having a cigarette_:eek:

I promise you......it will get better. It's early days yet, give it time ;);)

Absolutely nowt wrong with a difference of opinion! :D

Not sure what a nicotine craving is compared to just a craving so I couldn't really comment?

However you justify your own quit is totally up to you, the end result is hopefully the same. Cessation of tobacco usage.

Nicotine addiction is far from proven. Accepted? Yes. Rammed home? For sure.

Interestingly though that you think it's strange that the OP still had craves on nasal spray whereas I'd say that was totally expected!

It's always amazed me that, despite the obvious and continually posted fact that people still consuming nicotine still crave, we end up with fragile quitters discovering it alone and then get all confused and anxious.

Hi austinlegro, yes around that time I had the same problem. I saw someone standing in a doorway smoking and thought I wish that was me. But then I thought it's not me that should be jealous it's the one smoking the cigarette.

There has been many times when smokers have found out I have stopped and they say I wish I could, I'd love to stop I just can't. they are the jealous ones not us.

Yes it is the threes coming in, push past it because it's probably the hardest one to get through. I found although after this it was still at times difficult but the wanting became less frequent. you have done so well to get where you are so congrats to you. Keep it up you'll get there.
