Proud of myself today.

My husband had to have an operation today - nothing serious, but involved a general anaesthetic etc.

So I was at the hospital with him all day, hanging around, bored, worrying, feeling low-grade stress. The kind of day which would have knocked me off the wagon before, without a doubt. I did have a huge craving when I was waiting for him to go to theatre. But I got through the whole day and I didn't smoke.

If I had been a smoker, I would have been hiding round the corners hoping nobody would see me puffing away, I'd have been so ashamed of smoking fifty feet away from a cancer ward.

I didn't smoke though. I am a non smoker.

Oddly enough, the vascular surgeon doing my husband's op smelled of fags. You'd think he'd know better, huh??

Anyway. Wanted to share. Because I am genuinely proud of myself for riding it out today.

H

That's so great Belles, glad you feel proud of yourself and you should :)

Last year my mum had quit for 2 months and when my brother went in to get his appendix removed she used it as an excuse to start again... my brother wasn't impressed and it didn't help the situation at all... she's still smoking now.

That could have been you Belles, but it's not! You know better and you rode the wave :D

Well done Hels.

Lots of things are thrown at us in life, we shouldn't use the bad or stressful things as excuses to smoke.

You didn't :)

Well done for being so strong (hope hubby's doing ok too)

Thanks all - glad you didn't mind me blowing my own trumpet. It was kind of a tough day though, I do feel good about myself.

Mr Belles is home with his bandaged leg up and recovering nicely thankyou. Celebratory curry and cakes not helping my resolve to eat better, but what the hey, hey?? :D

Well done you.

Glad your OH is ok and on the mend. You would be shocked at how many doctors smoke, they should know better really but I suppose they have all the right contacts should they need them
