I woke up and it was a beautiful day, sun out, blue sky, dew on the ground. My daughter asked if she could go to the beach. My Smokers instinct was, no I'm too tired, don't have the energy etc. But I'm not a smoker and I didn't feel too tired and I do have the energy. So I decided to go to St Annes near Blackpool.
It was a fantastic day. It felt like a different life. The smells, the energy, just so Beautiful. I felt the joy and excitement I could see in the kids faces.
I was looking round taking it all in, amazed at how I felt, when it dawned on me. This is where it all started all those years ago. This is where I started smoking while at Blackpool college. I remembered sitting around on the floor of our college house with my Danish roomates, drinking filter coffee and asking for one of their Malboro's to join in. It's a very romantic thought and it was a great moment with friends. But I still remember wondering how they managed to make the act of smoking look so enjoyable when it tasted so bad.
But that was the begining, 16 years ago.
Wish I could have it all back.
Hope I have plenty more to come as a non smoker.

Well done on reaching 6 weeks quit. I can identify with how you feel on the energy thing. It's not just about having more puff when you are climbing that hill. When I was smoking I wouldn't even bother starting the climb.
I am so much more active these days. And my kids benefit. A couple of weeks ago my 15 year old son and I did the 5 mile Borth to Aberystwyth coastal walk while on holiday. The feeling of achievement we had as we rounded the last bend and saw Aberystwyth laying there beneath us is something I won't forget in a long time.
Nice one Sue. Did a run last night. 3.5 miles... Hope to do the Great North Run, half marathon next year.
I just wish I could help anyone who feels that it is hard...Being a non smoker is just the best thing ever. And it was all about rewiring the brain to understand that the cigarette was never enjoyable, it was just a fix. The same as a horoin addict.
I think Exercise is the key to many of lifes problems. Stress, sleep problems, weight etc etc

Hi Defrog,
What a lovely descriptive post. The truly positive side to being a non smoker. I am sure you will have many more experiences which will enforce the reason you have done this & all the best to you
