First off the good news, I'm going to be a granny I'm the only one in the family that still smokes and I don't want the baby to think, "ah I know granny she's the smelly one". I've been smoking for almost 40 years, stopped when I was pregnant and babies were small and took it up again with relish. Last stopped 30 years ago, so it's a big part of who I am and I really enjoy it. And being totally honest, I have great figure, size 10 and not really looking forward to loosing it, as I do eat more the less I smoke and I wish it was fruit but no I crave choc biccys. On the other side of the argument, I don't want to be a smoker at work anymore, hanging around cold damp corners feeding my habit, it's really undignified. Ofcourse there is also the money.
So what would be the best way for me to quit, all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hiya Jinty. Welcome to the forum. do you have smoking cessation clinics in your area? check your doctors too, they may have a nurse who does the same job. If you don't want to do it cold turkey, there are various NRT aids to help, Patches, gum etc. There is also Champix which is a tablet, with the added bonus of not containing nicotine. I'm sure there will be something in your area. Meanwhile, look at peoples sigs, click on the links and have a good read. Oh and congratulations on becoming a granny. David
Congratulation, you have taken the first step...you want to stop so you will!!
Dave is right, go to local clinic, Doc will direct you. They are great and do give you all the options and explain all the things that are out there to help.
Then get on here and post, post, post and read, read, read. Its a good bunch here, a bit mad at times but everyone is at a various stage of a quit. You will hook up with a group who stop around the same time and you then start to climb the boards...it is a great motivation. I would never have managed to get this far without the guys on here, dragging me kicking and screaming into my 7th month smoke free. My daughter is almost as proud of me as I am.
Good luck lovely and look forward to seeing you back ready to start your journey.

Jinty, the fact that you have serched and found this site is the first step, now smokers are like alcoholics and drug addicts in the sense that only you can decide to stop. But be assured that we have all been were you are and will be here to talk and help you through the stopping process. And you will find that every ex smoker on this site was like you in the sense that we all enjoyed smoking cigarettes at some point and we did not enjoy putting on a little bit of weight but it is easier to get rid of some body fat than a smoking related illness. So this family are here to help you when you give up the fags.
Best of luck and hope you make the right decission.
