In October 2009 30 individuals took a decison, for thier individual reasons, to finally kick the weed out of thier individual lives. Throught the daze and haze that was Day 1, we individually found the NSD site forum and indiviudally took the plunge, logged on, and made our first posts...
WELL THAT WAS 6....YES 6 MONTHS AGO
and 23 of us survive....that is 77% success rate
We have laughed, we have cried, we have pushed, we have pulled, we have supported, we have even had the occasional spat BUT we have got here and we have got here TOGETHER.
Collectively we have expereinced craves, depression, mania, mouth issues, palpitations, breathlessness, sleep issues, weight issues, and many many more.
We have quit using nothing, Champix, patches, inhaulors and any other methiod known to man....
but most of all we have used, and sometimes abused, EACH OTHER.
So here is to us...the Octoquits

Go us Octoquits! *Dancing and wondering why I'm getting funny looks at work*
There was a point when I never thought I could make it to 6 WEEKS - let alone 6 months.... but now I seem to be getting further round the bend by the day!
Where would we all be if there was no one in front of us to give us a pull in the right direction, thanks from all of us behind you with a spring in our step because we can see how good it is to progress from month to month well done again
Hi Guys well done on reaching your half year milestone fantastic effort all of you ............... enjoy (get some cake whilst Lorna and Christine are not looking )

Congrats everyone AND CHEERS!
MCW! I'm seeing you........ we must be coming round the same bend, think your slightly more round the bend than me though as are Lorna and Christine -)
Talking of Christine..... all that wine that Christine ordered? ................. tut, look who I just passed on my way here
Seriously, you Octo's have been a great bunch of folk to travel this journey with. Supporting each other in one way or another with wine, beer, a well meaning kick up the arse, chocolate and threats of visits despite the snow of January
Lorna, this journey had better level out now as I can't keep my climbing boots on any longer due to swollen foot from running.
(ok, jogging on the spot which seems really embarrassing and pathetic)
To the next six months and our number still being the same when we hit 12 months
23 of us still quit = approx 71,000 smokes collectively not smoked since October.
Cheers and many many thanks to just not the Octo's but to those of you that have been part of my quit journey. I won't name names for fear of missing some out and causing much weeping, but you know who you are
Someone mention my name, hic! I am sorry I am late to the party but I had to buy shoes for today AND more wine. (where did you get that picture of me from, sadly that was me before I quit, slim that is not drunk!!!)
All hail the Octo quitters for they are worthy of their semi penthouse. Lorna the intro was (as always) bloody fantastic my lovely, Pol you are soppy as hell hence the reason we all love you.
Cheers for the best wishes from the other board members who have aspired us all.
Right pizza's on order, wine in hiding and the 70s disco just setting up. Off we go then.
Christine, I so nearly posted a pic of you shopping and waving your goods in the air but then you collapsed and well....... good to see you up and about and here with the wine ............. at last
My first coin in the Wurlitzer brings this to play (for us that have made it and for those that fell back off the wagon) - take it either way
Reading Festival seeing bands that, other than Peter Gabriel, I can't remember. I do re-call one of the big chunky leather clad bikers in my local (yes I started on the cokes and shandies early) going extremely red faced when his girl friend came in from watching that film dressed in bobby socks and frilly skit. Completely dressed for the part and in she walks into the the pub full of bikers.................. was funny. But Geoff (the boyfriend was very big) so titters and comments were kept quiet.
OK, chat over...... Layla was good as is the red wine. Your tune next
The laughing police man has nothing on me right now and I know all the words too
Yes, the eyes still have it, definitely.
I thought it might be the Bay City Rollers, wasn't expecting little Jimmy.
Friends and I used to sing that song whilst climbing up and sliding down slides. Oh my, less than two years later I was on the back of motor bikes listening to this kind of thing.....
Big congratulations to each and every one of of you !!.. hehe watching you all make your milestones is like watching the runners finish in the London marathon, and just as good to see
Well done all!!!!!!! keep going octoquitters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to thank you all so much for your support in my quit i no i would never of be able to do it with out you all.As i get no support from o/h but you all make up for it
I don’t normally post on the pages ahead of my quit but……...A 77% success rate is an awesome statistic- and not at a week or so but 6 months in- whatever you guys all did, you should bottle it and sell it on- I know a lot of clinics and rehab centres up and down the Country who’d kill for results like that. Good on you all, really, tis amazing- over 3 quarters of you just got on and did it- fan- bloody- tastic….if you could just e mail me your secret I’ll be catching you up in another 4 months……*impressed and pleased* for you all Pols xxx
Really superb effort all of you. Awesome. I think that must be a group record on NSD no? They had better have bunkbeds on order in the penthouse before you lot come crashing though or there will be some serious bed sharing

Thanks Pols...I agree it really is an awesome result...not all of us post regularly, but everyone has checked in the roll calls and once a month on the group post.
The only thing I can think of was that we started in October so we all had time on our hands in the evening to spend on here. That and we have ALL had problems and have not been afraid to share them, I think sometime people are afraid to post a negative post, but by doing so you get loads of support and it gives advice to others coming after.
AND we have laughed...we are lucky enough to have characters like Pols and Christine in our group who are quite frankly barking mad. I am of course the only sane one in the group!!!
Keep strong my lovely you are doing amazingly well.

We realised early on this may be a problem so we have commissioned a new Penthouse to be built. We had a vote and it is situated in St Barts, right on the beech and has every luxury known...including personal butlers!!
Hi all, a brilliant result for six months in. And I guess that is the worst case scenario, as there might be some Octoquitters who quit the forum rather than quit the quitting cigarettes.
Still not smoking and no desire to. Felt a little 'twinge' on a recent holiday to Egypt but that was just because everyone was smoking everywhere. I'd forgotten what it was like to see people smoking inside bars/resaurants etc.
So pleased that I inadvertently chose last October to quit, so had the benefit of teaming up with the Octoquitters. Great result that.
