Hi there all,

I'm back trying to quit again used these forums for a bit last year but fell off wagon.....have decided nicotine replacements just dont work for me, feel cold turkey is the way to go however have myself a bit of a safety net at the moment and wondered if anyone else had ever tried this way as could be kidding myself! Ok haven't had a 'proper' fag since wednesday evening. Could feel the pangs kicking in yesterday after work so on a whim went and bought nicotine/tobacco free herbal cigarettes....now am under no illusion they are in the whole much better (they contain 3mg tar) but hoping they will help me through the withdrawal period to a point where I wont even bother...woke up this monring with an urge for a fag and had one of these which psychologically seemed to help just a bit worried even when the nictone craving goes i may still have a habit to break with these? Limiting myself to only having one when I am really crawling the walls so we'll see, all i know is i am sick of being a slave to nicotine and hate the effects smoking is beginning to have on my body.

Sorry this seems like such a long ramble! Hope everyone else does really well!

Welcome back

well done on your choice from slavery to freedom:D

Do what seems right for you:D You could try cold turkey and have some kind of NRT as back up to fall back onto if you need them.

Im nearly 3 weeks cold turkey and have a Nicotine inhaler in my draw if i need to drop back onto it so far dont need it:)

And to help with your quit you could also try reading the allen carr stop smoking book which does help i think:D

Hiya and welcome back

Im in the same boat that im back to these forums for a second try but in all fairness i didnt last long last time and i stupidly believed i could have one fag and stop again the next day. But alas all my hardwork wasted.

Hopefully your in a positive, happy state of mind about your quit and feeling proud of all your hard work thus far!

I've never tried herbal cigarettes and not sure whats in them etc but if its what helps you and you dont become addicted to them instead im sure you'll be fine!

I wish you every success as you kick the habit

Hi Nicola and welcome back. I'm not sure about the herbal cigarettes either, not sure what is in them, but if they contain tar, it doesn't sound great, maybe you can get some that are just herbal (or am I being a bit dim?)

Reading as much material to understand what you go through when you stop smoking is important, but you've been here before so you know that.

Take it a day at a time is my advice, days mount into weeks. Try to stay calm, do things that make you smile and make you feel good about yourself, and never forget what a good thing it is you are achieving each day.

Good luck and keep in touch,

Lorraine :)

Quitting is easy staying quit is hard

Hi I hate to put a downer on your quit and this for you could be the way to go but in all honesty the nicotine withdrawal side of stopping is probably the easy part and that is 100% my opinion so dont quote me LOL after about five days it was the ritual of smoking that I missed and if herbal cigs were a 100% safe I would be smoking them now as in my opinion they are as dangerous as the real thing for coating the lungs and increasing risks as the contain 5mg of tar which is way higher than certain brands that proclaim to be better for you

Think how many cigs you smoke a day and how long it takes you to smoke them times the figures and how many hours is that in total on average its usually no more tha an hour

I know that for one hour a day you can not smoke so do you you are stronger than an hours worth of yor time

Also try when you want a ciggy and I mean desperatley want one sit down close your eyes and pinch both earlobes hard for 30 seconds then imagine the process of having cig however you do ie rolling etc or taking out the box and then you have smoked it or better still after pinching earlobes tell yourself you are relaxed you do not smoke and YOU DO NOT NEED A GIG and you can then see if it helps I am on 5 weeks and was smoker 41 years believe me if I can quit any one can we are all here to help you email or send private messages to any one and they will help you sustain your quit

Let me know how you are getting on x

Hi it's great you are going to try again but like others are saying I have to agree the herbals wont help and probably do you more harm.

Like Jamangie I am on 8 weeks a little further on and I smoked 52 years. I believe we are both going CT so if we can do it most others can. That does not mean you should not use NRT or other.

Good luck with it just remember you're not on your own there's help here.

Hi Nicola,

This may seem weird and I am fairly new to this giving up business - day 17 I think now, but what seems to help me if I really need a fag is to pretend i've got one. Inhale really deeply like you would if you were really enjoying one, hold the breath and then let it out. It seems to help a little and just enough to have kept me on the straight and narrow so far! Good luck
