What to do......

At the risk of repeating an earlier point - albeit from a different perspective, I have woke up today (first day of week two as a NS) and realised I havent got my patches for the next seven days. However, I still havent bought them and I feel fine. I dont know what to think. My wife has just done her first week without any help, and Im thinking I might join her. Think I may need to take that plunge. after all, I genuinely dont feel interested in picking up a cigarette!!;)

I would certainly give it a go, if you are not feeling anxious and have no interest in picking up a cigarette, then it seems you're in quite a strong frame of mind, so go for it. At worst, if things get a big edgy, put a patch on and continue with the program. For me personally, it wasn't (isn't) the nicotine withdrawal, it is more the association of different things with smoking and the fact that I did quite like it at times, which is why I can only think of it as a day at a time.

I don't know about you, but i've found it a huge help with my husband giving up and the same time.

Well done to you and Mrs V.

I underestimated the effect my wifes smoking had on my own habit. We went out to eat on Saturday, and I didnt think about it once. I know for certain if she had left for a cigarette after every course it would have been a different story!!

Hi MrV :D

Sounds like you're both doing just fine and a week smoke free is great

I think maybe you might manage without the patches already but if you're unsure of yourself might be an idea to get a pack just in case you need then better that loosing your quit

The patches Ive been using Ive been taking off at night. I forgot to take it off last night. I was waking up from Nightmares every half hour, so vivid! Not sure whether its coincidence or the nicotine in my sleep!!!!! Was bizzare

Still feeling ok today though, not gonna bother with them now

Got to 8 o clock last night, think I must have underestimated how the patches were helping me, anyway, in short, I bought some, and Im going to finish the course!!

Think you have made the right decission

Morning Mr Virginis26

Just read your post from yesterday and I think you have done the right thing and bought the patches. I did the same last year, started on the patches and after 9 days I thought I had cracked it and was a non smoker but unfortunately I caved in at about week 4/5 (cannot quite remember) so I decided however I felt this time I would follow the course till the end and hopefully will succeed for good this time.

Keep up the great work, you are doing fantastic.

MR V, Well done for sticking another patch on and keeping on track. I know what you mean about the vivid dreams. In the past when I've used them it's been the technicolour, dolby stereo surround sound IMAX dream experience! If it helps you, keep with the course and all will be well.

To be honest, my dreams are pretty vivid anyway, so it was too much for me, I will stick with what I did last week and take the patch off an hour before I go to sleep. Didnt have any problems doing it that way.

Has anyone had difficulties when coming off patches after completing the entire course?

Good question......

That's a good question as I would like to know the answer to that to as I have been thinking about even though I have another 9 weeks!!!!!

A friend of mine didn't come off the patches after the 12 weeks think she continued for another 2 weeks on the 7mg but cut them in half. I wonder if coming off the patches will be harder than quitting in the first place????

Ps.....

About the dreams Mr V, I mentioned this to the nurse when I went to see her yesterday for my patches and she said that I shouldn't be having anything that will stimulate me like drinking tea or coffee and anything with sugar in at least a couple of hours before bed. I like you always take my patch off a hour or so before ned but still have very vivid dreams, which isn't like me, however they are not every night thank god!!!!.

Just thought I'd share that with you and it may help.

I'm a Cold Turkey quit. So therefore I wouldn't have thought stopping your course of patches would be any different to a cold turkey-er stopping cigarettes. Whichever way you slice it, we're all just stopping nicotine completely. I'm on Day 11 and doing fine, so I wouldn't worry about coming off patches when the course ends.

Not what you're looking for?
