Hi Everyone!

Well here I am on Day 2 :) And so far, still no cravings to write about. I'm feeling quite good today, not tetchy or mardy.

Physically...well, this morning I was coughing up god knows what for a good ten minutes - but better out than in! I also found it difficult to sleep last night...but not because I was thinking about fags, just because I felt so alert and wide wake - a strange feeling for me since I don't drink very much with caffine in (decaf tea and coffee for me)...maybe its just my body adjusting I don't know, but I'm hoping for a better night's sleep tonight.

I still haven't wanted or needed to smoke and its strange as I feel like I've forgotten I smoke...almost like a different person. I'm being positive so I suppose that helps though I am aware the next days and weeks may not always be this easy, here's hoping! ;)

How is everyone else doing?

Well done on Day 2 Cath!! You're doing amazingly well! Can I ask what you are using to assist you in quitting? Or are you doing it just on willpower alone? I ask because I'm on Champix and honestly think that might be part of the reason I'm finding it so easy so far.

Like you I could smoke upto 30 a day some days, and at all hours of the day or night but before my quit, Champix had cut that down to maximum of 4 or 5...so going from that to 0 hasn't been too bad!

Do let me know how you feel tomorrow, I am sure it will get easier for you as time passes!

Hey Lindsay,

Im using patches and loads of gummy bears lol

Reading through the other posts a lot of people are using champix, fraid I dont know what that is!!! I have went straight from smoking 20 - 30 to nothing maybe thats what Ive done wrong, but sure all these cravings will do is make me stronger they cant kill me........I HOPE.

Speak to u tommorrow let us do this together.

That can work for some people Cath and its obviously working so far so stick with it! I've tried patches before but just couldn't deal with how horrible I always felt, because I got a huge enjoyment from smoking which I believe the Champix helps block. I have different mindset now too, as in I don't tell myself I'm an ex smoking trying to quit, I tell myself I'm a non smoker and that's it.

Here's a quote from Patient UK (quite a reliable source) on how Champix actually works (its a tablet by the way)

Varenicline (trade name 'Champix') is a medicine that was first licensed in the UK in December 2006. It was developed to help smokers to stop smoking. Varenicline mimics the effect of nicotine on the body. Therefore, it both reduces the urge to smoke and relieves withdrawal symptoms.

The precise action of varenicline is that it interferes with the receptors in the brain that nicotine stimulates. (The nicotine in cigarettes attaches to receptors in brain cells to stimulate part of the brain - this is how nicotine has it's effect.) What varenicline does is to partly stimulate the nicotine receptors. This mimics the effects of nicotine to reduce cravings and withdrawal effects when you stop smoking. However, at the same time, it partially blocks the receptors and prevents nicotine from attaching to the receptors. This blocks or blunts the effect of nicotine in people who give in to temptation and have a cigarette.

If you'd like to read a little more about it, there's lots of information from Patient UK available, here's a link which explains a bit more about Champix patient.co.uk/health/Smokin...

Hope that helps to explain a little :)

Well done girls, day 3 now. Day 2 was my worst day I actually thought I would die if I did not smoke, but that is just a myth:D

Hope you are both well and happy. You are doing really well, you should be proud of yourselves.
