hey folks,

new on here and came across the forum after trawling google :)

well im on day 8, and as per my thread title, i feel terrible.

sore throat (actually feels like my glands i think) its as if im swallowing bowling balls! really quite sore combined with stiff neck muscles :(

not sure if this is a symptom from quitting, or that ive picked up a bug.

anyway ill struggle on - really dont want to go back to a smoking life.

any advice/info is greatly received

Davy!

Hi Davy,

Congratulations on not smoking!! Day 8 is fantastic!!

I am being bothered by the same problem. I have read that sore throat is common when quitting.

I got a sore throat that started around day 6. I stuck it out for a week, was very sore by then, so I went to my Dr, who gave me Antibiotics. They helped but it is not gone.

Now at day 26 it feels sore but not as severe, still some swelling of the glands in my neck. So I am not not sure what to think about it. I have not been coughing or throat clearing that would cause irritation.

Hopefully others will know more about this and how long a sore throat typically will last when you first stop smoking.

Hey Davie and welcome. It sounds to me like you have maybe picked up some kind of virus and because you have stopped smoking (BRILLIANT) it may be hitting you a little harder than it would before.

But having said that if you read the posts on here and read as many as you can you will see others get the same or different symtoms. As you can see Downunder has similar symtoms to you it could be coincidence or it may be somtheing you are both suffering through stopping smoking.

Speaking of that very well done on reaching day 8 that is fantastic. Try riding it out but if you think you should go see a doctor, better to be safe than sorry and not assume it's because you have stopped smoking.

Also well done to Sue and Downunder.

Jack :)
