Day 2 first time quitter, weird dreams?

Hello all,

This is the first time I've tried giving up! Day one went OK but day 2 is feeling a little harder!! I'm on the patches and have no idea if this is a link to the very strange dreams I had ALL NIGHT LONG! I'm also feeling a little shaky. Is this all normal?? Any advice would be great,

Thanks in advance

Claire

Oooh I would love to here about other people's experiences of weird dreams as i started on the patches yesterday morning and ended up having rather saucy dream about Cain Dingle having a shave and haircut!!!!!!!! very disturbing!!!!!!! :o

I thought i had better edit and add that this is Mandy not Steve typing!!!!

Yes when i was on patchs i had very strange vivid dreams.

I found taking the patch off when i went to sleep solved the problem.

When you wake up put one on then have a little nap for 10 minutes then get up and start your day:D

Hi to you all and YES weird dreams are completly normal. They do stop evenually, around about 2-3 weeks, some say with great disappointment!!:D

Have a read at previous posts in your day of quit and you will see all the weird and wonderful things we all go through...LOL

Anyway CONGRATULATIONS on 1 day down....that is the hardest day done I promise you...no matter how hard it is from now on NOTHING is as bad as the 1st day...

Keep strong guys you are doing amazingly well

Yes, I had the dreams too, took them off during the night and all was well from there. Well done Mandy, Clair and Steve for stopping smoking, read up as much as you can about the addiction etc, know what happens and prepare your head, this is how we stay stopped. Our signatures have some good websites.

Best wishes to you Ace, you know the drill, you can do it.

CONGRATUMALATIONS! I tried patches many moons ago - they felt as if they were doing more damage than smoking (dead arm, heart palps, dizziness, feeling icky). Giving them the skip this time.

I'm heading towards the end of 72 hours (at 16:00) and so far (for me) today has been the easiest so far. It sounds a little strange but I kinda feel all tingly and alive. It's funny to think that it's just nerves and stuff getting the oxygen I've been starving them of.

Hi Claire :D

Well done deciding to stop smoking and day 2 already just hang in there it gets easier Promise

The dreams are normal for a lot of us no matter what we use but they don't last for long

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathising with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

This link is good for the psychological part of quittingwhyquit.com/whyquit/A_Sympt...

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here

Thank you for all of your replies, its great to know that there are so many people going through the same thing as that we can all talk about our experiences. Fingers crossed that in the next week or so I'll stop thinking so much about having a smoke!

Thanks again x :D

hi claire,

I found i had what i can only describe as "wierd" dreams, for the majority of the time i was using 24 hour patches. What sort are you using? I ended up taking them off for sleeping around day 7. Of course you should only do this if you feel you can deal with the morning urges should you smoke upon waking.

Hello LP,

I'm just using the "step one" high dose patches that the nurse prescribed. I might do as advised by people on here and take them off during the night as I cant keep dreaming for the entire night for the next few weeks!!!

To be honest I'm looking forward to the end of day 3 as I've read on here that this is when things start getting a little easier! At the moment I keep thinking "why am I doing this" then having to remind myself that I dont want to keep going to get cash out every day to buy fags!!

I'm sure in the long run things will get easier and I will look back and be proud that I and all of you managed to break this habbit of a nightmare!!!

Thanks all xx

Hi Claire

well done on 2 days you are doing great,im on my second week and it is a lot easier now.

i am using the 16hr patches so remove at night as these were prescribed by my quit nurse,i have used the 24 hr patch on previous quits and suffered from bad nightmares so might be worth getting the 16 hr patches or just remove at bed time.

Hi Claire

Well done on getting to day 2. Many people have said they have dreams and nightmares from patches. But hang in there it they will pass and they have got to be better than smoking.

I quit successfully using patches, and it was due to the dreams keeping me awake that i googled the problem and i found this very forum to be of alot of help.. has been since :)

forum.nosmokingday.org.uk/s...

I was wearing the 24 hour patches at the time and was managing just nicely on them but the only issue i was having was the very realistic and yet, really weird dreams.

The answer for me was definitely to remove my patch about half an hour to an hour before i went to bed, and that sorted it out..

though i do miss them weird dreams as for years i've hardly recalled having any dreams at all yet woke from those patch driven dreams remembering nearly all the detail. :(

so yeah take the patch off, and give that a whirl.
