Hi all - Newbie on day 23 with questions

Hello fellow quitters (and I mean that in the best possible way)

Am very happy to say I'm on day 23 of my (umpteenth) quit and feeling very very positive this time around. Mainly cos I've stopped smoking EVERYTHING if you know what I mean???

I am taking Champix so on about Week 4 of that and just wondered if any others had experienced some of these side effects...I'm trying to work out if it's just the Champix, the quitting or a combination of both!

I have a horrid metallic taste in my mouth that won't go away. Any non-champix takers have that too?

Also bleeding gums but I know that can happen with champix and without.

No disturbed sleep but crazy vivid dreams that I'm quite enjoying. These may also be linked to quitting the 'other weed' tho

Well, just thought I'd post my experiences so far. Would love to hear yours.

Cheers and take care

Hi Vans :D

Well done 23 days is great keep it going

I also used champix so will try and help if I can with the questions

The metal taste that won't go swsy I didn't have but know of those that did and not just champix users

Bleeding gums happen also with and without champix

The dreams definitely come with champix although some others get them I did as well and some were real humdingers HA HA I don't know about the other weed as I never used it sorry

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here

are 2 I found very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com

Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

This link is good for the psychological part of quitting whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Sympt...

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here OK

Hi Vans

Well done on getting so far already...and welcome to the forum.

There are loads of us on here all with different expereinces and nothing you have described is unusual. All these things that no one tells you about ;)

It is so worth it though, so stay strong and good luck

:)

Hey Vans welcome to the forum :D

I used the other weed for far too long but gave that up about ummm 6 years ago... certainly got some dreams after that but am again having a resurgance of vivid dreams after quitting ciggies.

I'm using patches rather then champix which drove me round the twist and brough back my anxiety attacks and stuff (shame my docs forgot not to give it to anyone who has previously had anxiety and the such ).

I'd say the other side effects are the Champix it does have a load that go with it however they should subside and some ppl have cut their dosage, there are some threads in here about it.

Personally I think whatever we change hits our sleep and dream patterns quite extensively I expect there is quite a lot going on in our brains at the moment.... all good I'm sure :D It's probably thinking woooooot I can get back to normal!

Have a great day xxx

Welcome and well done on stopping for 23 days, nearly a month, wow. As the others have said your side effects are from stopping as well as the Champix.

There is a website in my signature which tells you about symptoms, that might help, the other sites are well worth looking at too, helping you to understand the nicotine addiction.

Best Wishes.

Jackie

Its the same for me

Hi Vans

I am on day 25 now and the dreams are extremely vivid and wonder where on earth they come from and am also on Champix. The metallic taste I have had every time I have given up smoking so don't think just down to the method of quitting. I also suffered quite a lot, especially in the early days, of mouth watering constantly to the point where I had to physically try and remember to breath in through my mouth! It does go away though and I find that sugar free sweets help although too many and it does have an adverse effect  However I think Champix is brilliant and I have really large chunks of the day that I forget that I even smoked, but still get the occasional triggers.

Regards

Sarah

HI Vans!!

Well done on day 23!!!

You should give yourself a big pat on the back for that one most definately.

I have been quitting using patches, and have had a strange taste in my mouth sometimes. I think though that after smoking for many years, sometimes taste buds and everything needs to reset, and maybe some of the odd things are side effects of your Champix, as others have mentioned, but also your bodies repair process happily going about its business too....

Keep on going.... :) xx

Thanks for such a warm welcome everyone :)

Am so pleased that I've come so far. I quit once before for 3 months using Champix so I know it works really well but didn't have these strange side effects before. I've asked my doc to give me a call back as apparently the 0.5mg tablets aren't as bad - I tried biting them in half this morning but they're so tough!!

I've also read that when you stop smoking the levels of flora and bacteria in your mouth change drastically so it's no surprise that some of us get strange tastes

Well done to all of us for doing so well - onward and upward eh? It can only get easier!

Cheers

Hi vans,

Welcome and well done. yes, to Champix and yes to the side-effects you desrcibe.

I had/have vivid dreams which led to disturbed sleep patterns which led to tiredness.

I had nausea but was dealt with in part by eating before taking the tab.

Definitely a metallic taste in my mouth - I just got used to it.

After about a month/five weeks on Cha,pix I cut down to one a day, then half, then half every other day. You can bite them in half but they are 'tough' or cut them with a sharp knife. I had no additional cravings after cutting down the tabs and the side effects improved significantly.
