I'm on day 5 of my quit and had this really strange dream last night.
Dreamt I'd invented a new idea of smoking two cigarettes at once! In the dream I knew I no longer smoked (which I think is great going for day 5) but all I kept feeling was really bad disappointment that I'd smoked for about 50 years but never tried this idea.
The strong feeling of disappointment lasted for several hours after I woke too! How strange, it probably means something I'm sure, but hey ho, day 5 and I'm going great, so thats all that matters really.
Also just had a boost, you know the loop that goes on in your brain, I will just finish this job and then have a cig, well for the very first time for me this afternoon, I thought I will just finish this (making a lemon drizzle cake it was) and then I will have a lolly! Wow! Not saying I've cracked it by any means, but its all good stuff.

Weird dreams are normal at the start of a quit but had to chuckle at the thought of smoking 2 at a time oh dear
Yeah I know the loop in the brain that wants a reward for a job done HA HA but agree it's great that you now associate a reward to mean a lolly and not a fag after a job
Yes it's all good well done still chuckling away here to myself
lol Marg I know!! What can you do with me, is what my daughter says!!
I did hesitate to post about that dream, but it truly happened just like that and I wondered if I would get tutt tutt at all!!!! I know I'm a naughty girl but I didn't do it, just thought/dreamed of it!!
ha ha - will try to kick my dreams into touch - promise!!
Don't worry about the dreams continue to post about them if you want to at least you knew you were dreaming but some wake convinced for a while that they've really smoked
You're not a naughty girl at all I well remember posting about one of mine and loads thought it was hilarious
Not many here would tutt tutt about them as most of us seem to get them OK
The smoking dreams are some of the strangest things. Just look at them as a comedy show and enjoy the way they play out. Someone should start a dream thread and normalize them. It would make for interesting reading.
Marg - you are a treasure - thank you, you understand so well and I find your posts inspiring and encouraging. Bless you. xxxx
Stumpsounder - yes - a dreams thread would make interesting reading! I bet lots of the dreams are directed and stage managed by our nicotine monsters, ya reckon?
Well done you day one without which there wouldn't be a quit
Weird dreams, mood swings and hot flushes are par for the course I'm afraid but they soon pass
The eating is also normal but it will settle down in time

that made me smile - i had a dream like that where i was just trying to get as many lit ciggies in my mouth as i could, like i was on an episiode of "you bet" or something. lol. its wierd how the brain deals with the letting go part of the habit when quitting. but thank god it does! its wierd as i dont think i ever dremt about smoking when i was a smoker. maybe i did and cant remember.
Hey Highlandlassie,
welcome aboard. and congratulations. Eat up I say, if you dont eat it someone else will
dont worry about it, your doing great, one day at a time eh!
I had a weird smoking dream last week ( and I don't think I have ever had a dream with smoking in it before). My dream was that I smoked 3 cigarettes, one after the other. I could really taste them, and boy they were soooo good, and I really, really enjoyed it. Admitting this feels a bit like saying that I enjoyed some dubious sexual practice - ashamed & grubby kinda thing (not that I have by the way).
The other weird bit was that when I woke up I thought I really had smoked 3 cigs and was devastated. It took about 15 minutes before I realised it was a dream. This whole dream bothered me for a couple of days, but now I figure it was just Nico Demon's last stand.
I'm sorry that dream bothered you for a couple of days but well done staying smoke free
You're right to say it was the Demons causing it I really beleive this happens when they can't get at us through or conscious minds so they wait untill we sleep and then try that is just mt opinion and not doubt others have there own to explain why this happens to so many of us quitters
Hi, I've had some very weird dreams - usually when I've been smoking in them and woken up confused about whether I was smoking or not.
Fortunately my dreams have not been scary - until the night before last. I had this awful dream about some funeral directors who came to my house and told me that I was booked in for 10.20am on Friday morning. I was saying that I wasn't dead or sick but they kept insisting that it wasn't a mistake. When I said that I wasn't going to be 'ready' at 10.20am on Friday for their services, they said that they never make mistakes and 'somethng would be arranged' if I wasn't ready. I woke up in such a state that I spent the next few hours terrified to go back to sleep. I'm still waiting for 10.20am on Friday to pass without incident.
Think it was a combination of having been to a funeral last week and having number of 'heavy' appointments and meetings this week.
When am I going to have a nice dream - like George Clooney and Richard Gere fighting over my attentions!
The smoking dreams have also started for me. I dreamt I bought a pack of malborough (not my brand as a smoker) and was desperate to smoke them because they would taste like maltesers???????
Probelm was I had to hide to smoke them and everywhere I found to hide was really smelly and I could not light up because of the smell????
Didn't smoke in the end.....guess my concious mind was still kicking in and fighting the demons in my sleep.
OR have I replaced one addiction with another for chocolate??
