Hi everyone, have read a lot of the posts and info in the links on here as I'm giving up smoking tomorrow with the help of hypnotherapy.
I must say that I admire so much the honesty and the courage of posters, your posts are inspirational.
I also have an appointment with the nhs stop smoking clinic on Tuesday. Just hope it will work ok for me as I have to do it for health reasons.
I've had to wait 10 days for the hypnotherapy appointment and so have been trying to cut down as much as I can. Reading through the psychology of addiction links I now realise that I've been in mild nicotine withdrawal for all that time. That probably explains some of the depression I'm feeling at the moment, which is most unusual for me.
I've smoked since I was 12 and am now 63. If I want to be 64 I have to stop!
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, with very best wishes to everyone, Vivienne

Well done deciding to stop smoking for health reasons and yes it's probably cutting down the Nicotene that's causing the mild depression just now
There are loads of things out there to help with quitting Don't worry about being 63 I was 65 when I stopped and have never felt better than I do now
Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

Stopped today at about 12.30 - my chest feels easier already and its only been 6 hours. Feeling positive at the moment and finding the tip of buying a bag of lollies so helpful, thank you, whoever it was! Especially the sherbert type ones, that are hard, I can have a few sucks of it, put it down, do a bit of online stuff and then pick up the lolly and have a few sucks again! Great! Vivienne.
Well done on your first steps to be a non smoker. Personally I dont think I could have got this far (on Day 18) without the support of this group. I to have had to give up for health reasons and have smoked for 40 years. It is not easy but I did just one day at a time, and still do. I gave in to Nicquit lozenges which I find really good if you get a bad craving, the mini ones are the size of tictacs but really help me, the big ones in the box are to big to suck without being noticed in company.
Hi Vivienne, Welcome - and good luck. There will be ups and downs, but the downs do get easier. Just stick with it. Suck the lollipops (I went on to grapes - they taste different if you don't smoke!), post here, let us know how you're getting on and be strong. You can do this
Hi Vivienne! Congratulations! you have taken the first step! It is good that you are feeling positive. You have good days and bad days inn front of you but you are on a good streak! Lollies are a good idea, a lot of different flavored gum, different crafts (crochet, knitting, painting and others) will keep your fingers busy!
Vivienne. Congrats...that's a couple more hours knocked off for you:). I am sure you have read the 'one step at a time' advice posts on here. That helps..little steps.
I personally like to come online and browse around and rant a lot...people are great and very supportive in that way.
Thanks everyone, it helps a lot to see support from you all.
Found it very difficult this morning I must admit because my first of the morning cigs were very precious - yes and the coughing that went with it - trying to remind myself of the reasons again for giving up!
I'm off to the NHS stop smoking clinic at 11.00 this morning, so that should be helpful too. Baby steps, yes, thank you all, its appreciated.
Your on your way, more than a day is gone! I also found the morning cigarette the hardest to give up. But, I went back to my morning ritual without the smoke pretty fast. I just bought some real good coffee (something I felt was a luxus before) and made a point of enjoying it without the cigarette!
But, some people try to avoid situations that remind them of smoking. Everybody has to find their own way, but one thing is certain: it just gets better!
