I know its never too late to stop smoking and enjoy the benefits of being smoke free but I wondered if the damage to your lungs can ever be repaired?
I see the adverts with a pair of nice wet shiny pink lungs of a none smoker and then the gross picture of the blackened excuse for lungs of a smoker. I wondered if the lungs can ever be healthy and pink again?
Sorry for posting such ramblings but I desperately need some motivation and good news on my quit!!

It will take you less than 24 hours to clear your lungs of carbon dioxide and then on day 5 of your quit you will start coughing now and again especially when you exert yourself, this is your body expelling what it can. The cough is nothing as bad as a smokers cough. You can help yourself by eating well and drinking lots especiallly prune juice as it is the best body cleaner. go for it and keep strong.
Ok here goes, the scarred and dead lung never recovers, however lung funcation returns to close to normal after a varing amount of time (depends on age amount smoked etc). Trapped carbon (black bits on lungs) never clears.
If you don't have lung cancer when you quit the risk of lung cancer returns to normal after a few years.
Sorry i don't have all good news for you, but i think it is best to know the truth and the truth is we are all healthy and wealthy and less smelly than when we smoked.
OH is open to answering (via me) any questions you may have, though as i said he is not a lung doctor, he mainly deals with broken bones and poorly knees.
These are only general answers to general questions and if you have any worries go and see your GP.
Yup, apparently its another price we have to pay for being so dumb as to start in the first place.
However, im sure that they will be in better condition than a smokers lungs, and in fact, its quite amazing that they actually repair as well as they do considering the abuse they have taken after years of smoking!
Read other peoples posts including mine of people who could not run a few yards to now being able to run easier, and some guy posting about cycling 30 miles regularly after a sedentary lifestyle.
